"Side effects" of WLS

I went kayaking with my husband twice this week. I'm not even sore, and I was not worried about swamping the boat.

That is my goal! I can't wait to learn and go kayaking around the waterways of Cleveland's Emerald Necklace!

I didn't have as much cut off (only 14") when I started my journey preop, but it was still to my shoulders. Now it's short and sassy! It even looks good after a workout.

Well, I did it... I cut my hair! Five inches gone. That's one inch for every ten pounds I've lost! What do you think? IMG_2584.JPG

Your hair looks fabulous! I recently cut mine from mid-back to shoulder too and love it. I don't feel like I need to hide any more.

This is a great thread. It's funny how this surgery affects you in so many ways other than physically. My mind plays tricks on me all the time. Just this week I went to the beach with my son and forgot our chairs. My immediate thought was "If I try to get down in the sand on my beach towel, I won't be able to get back up". Then I remembered that I can get up from the floor now. I also went to dinner on the boardwalk with hubby and the restaurant had an hour wait. The waiting area was outside and I was freezing, so he suggested we walk up the boardwalk a bit to a souvenir shop where I could get a light jacket or sweatshirt. Well my immediate reaction was to say that they won't have anything in there that will fit me, but he made me go anyway. I saw a cute pink zip hoodie but they only had it up to a size large. I said "OMG this is cute but look how small it looks!" He said...."Ummmm that will fit you. You're not 300 lbs any more so try it on." And it did. I almost teared up over being able to walk into any old store and grab something off the rack like a "normal" person. I also find myself constantly wondering if I can fit in a booth, a chair, walk from point "A" to "B", get into or out of a certain position and am still trying to learn this new person I've become. I've realized that I don't even know what style clothing I like because my whole wardrobe has always been whatever fits or best hid my fat. The therapist I had to see pre-surgery suggested that I take weekly selfies to help my mind jive with my body. She said that seeing yourself in a photo gives you a better sense of what other people see as opposed to looking at your reflection in a mirror because your mind will distort it since it's been accustomed to seeing the same person looking back for so long. Good advise - more selfies it is! lol

I can relate to all of this! So happy for you (and me lol).

I am a middle aged solo mom and I just started dating a new man. (which is a side-effect unto itself. LOL)

He asked me to sit on his lap to kiss him. So I did. And I didn't worry that I would break him.

That lack of worry that I

-will be too heavy

-won't fit into something

-will hurt someone

-have people looking at me thinking "she should lose some weight"

-etc

is all gone. I don't miss that worry at all. :D

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
