HELP**what foods to eat on 5th week of surgery?

Recommended Posts

hello,

Well those who don't know I just got my surgery May 3 of this year. So far so good down 15lbs not sure if that is good or bad. I'm on week 5 and I don't know exactly what to eat. Everytime I eat something I just feel this pain going down my chest. Then I get over it. I have tried shredded chicken, tuna and so far nothing good. I have ate chips which I know what am I thinking. I only at 2 and that went so smooth. Help I don't know what foods to eat and is the pain normal.

Did your doctor give you a list? My surgery was May 8 and I'm now on soft foods until June 16. Here is what I can have. My faves are refried Beans with a sprinkle of cheese and string cheese.

I had surgery 5/2. For week 5 I am on soft, ground, moist food. However I've had trouble advancing so I'm going very slow. At this stage I can have any ground meat, tuna/chicken/ ham salad, some fruits as long as they are moist. I can't start trying raw veggies until week 6. Right now my meal plan looks like this:
Breakfast: Premier Protein shake
Snack: Greek yogurt
Lunch: Protein soup
Snack: a couple slices of cheese
Dinner: half of a chicken sausage and 1/4 cup of potato

I've had a hard time tolerated veggies so I haven't had much but try to get them in my Soup. I'm looking forward to when I can have a salad with some grilled chicken on it but given how hard of a time I've had advancing, it may be a bit.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
