No more headaches...

Recommended Posts

I was banded a little over a month ago- I though this feedback might to be helpful to others getting started. I was on a liquid diet for about 7 weeks total-cut back on all the sugar and carbs-haven't had soda since April and have had little coffee- I have not had a headache in about 3 months- I used to get headaches at least 5x a week- I am telling you that cutting down on the carbs and sugar really does work- I was a little concerned intially about not being able to take anything but Tylenol for pain but I have to say I have yet to need it. This goes to show that there are so many benefits besides the obvious, losing weight, that the lap band has to offer. I am grateful:)

I am glad that you have had this result but please remember that everyone is different. I suffer from Migraines and sinus had aches. at times they hit me at the same time. cutting out caffeine was not a help in fact was told to drink 1-2 cups a day to ward off the headaches. I have been low carb and low sugar for many months now and just this past week have had headaches 5 out of 7 days. some worse than others.

we each are different.

enjoy your new headache free life and good luck with your weight loss.

I was in no way trying to imply that everyone would have the same result-just thought I would share my experience and hope that others will have similar experiences- we are all different but there probably will be some people out there with the same experience as me, no or less frequent headaches due to the reduction of sugar levels.Migraines are a different story-I never meant to imply that everyone would have this result-just thought I would share MY experience.

I think I've had a similar experience actually. I'm not a coffee drinker but I was a HUGE diet soda drinker. I haven't had any soda since July and started my pre-op liquid diet on 8/16 - I've been sticking to my "diet" since then. The first time in my life I have not cheated AT ALL!

I used to get regular head aches - 3-5 times per week. I was taking A LOT of Advil. (for headaches, menstrual cramps, and when I was having a bunch of major dental work done over a 2 month period)

When I had an EGD in April with my pre-op tests, they found I had the start of 2 small ulcers. My doc attributes it largely to all the Advil and I was having a little reflux.

I too worried about Tylenol being my only option and it occurred to me just last week that the only time I’ve needed it, was right after surgery. I'm not sure exactly what the change was (soda, carbs, sugars, processed foods, sodium, etc... ) but I am so glad to be rid of the headaches!!

I have had Migraine headaches for 16 years. I would get them 4-5 times a week. I started the liquid diet a little over 4 weeks ago & I have not had a headache. I have been sooooo happy about that. I was really afraid that once I stopped drinking my beloved DR PEPPER that I was going to have horrible headaches, but it has been the opposite. There are a lot of foods that cause Migraines and diet soda is one. So now that I am able to eat solids I am nervous and I am really going to try to watch what I eat & keep track of what I ate in case I do get a migraine.

I know I was miserable the last week of the liquids, but I was really happy not to have had any migraines!

I can sympathize with you all. I started my pre-op and have had a Migraine for 2 days now. I had to take advil last night or I was going to die. The nurse told me if I really had to go ahead. I am going to try to stay off everything at least the week before surgery. Is it weird or crazy or could splenda/sweetners be the cause of my migrains. I know for that I added a crystal light (red) to my Water a few days ago and I think that it triggered it.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
