Weight A Minute!!!

Recommended Posts

That always riles me a bit, although I know its not meant that way.

But healthy weights are averages and 150 would not be "anorexic". It may not be the way you personally want to look, but its "normal weight", its FAR from anorexic - I've been 150 at 5ft 10 and I look normal and healthy, not terribly skinny. I think our vision of it gets skewed by being overweight.

All I am saying is for ME I look like hell at 150. In fact, I have never been under 165. And yes, when your bones stick out, its too far to go.

Its normal for some bones to show - collarbones, tips of shoulders and jawbones etc.

I think our view of what looks normal is skewed by the fact that as a society we're plain FAT. What looks normal to a lot of people is actually overweight.

Everyone has the right to look how they want, and its perfectly acceptable to like more meat on you. But 200lb on a five foot ten woman is overweight. It may "look" how you like to look, its still overweight. Its a darn sight better than weighing 300 and an awesome achievement. Its still overweight.

150 is about what you "should" weigh at five foot eight. It is not ribs sticking out skinny. Its a healthy weight.

Again, everyone should weigh what they WANT to, not what a chart tells them too. But I really dont think I'm walking around looking anorexic or ghastly.

Sorry to take issue with it Julie, I know that you're not picking fights or being argumentative. But I think its a really issue that overweight people have, not being able to allow themselves to imagine a normal weight. It seems so common to say "oh, but i look awful at that weight".

while I agree with much of what you have said, one cannot focus on just a number--my goal is to live long enough to be an aggravation to my cchildren..and at 60 I was dying...literally!! I have lost 113lbs and now take no pills...as for excrcise..my 2 broken ankles and need of a total ankle replacement do not let me excersice..I do swim as often as I can....given all that, I would just like to weigh what I did in high school...180....and that will be coming along soon. If my body goes lower by not changing the way I eat, so be it. Everyone has do do whats right for themselves--and attain one goal at a time!!

Hi I am in a size 10 jean. I am just trying to be healthy and happy. I really think 160 to 170 will be fine. I am hoping if I have a Tummy Tuck it will help. I am muscular (even when I was fat I was active).. I just know the general public has bought into the size 0 celebrities and that is not me. During our support meeting last night I addressed the issue of the # the dietician gave to strive for (150-155). Guess what she backed off. Don't get me wrong she is really nice but in my opinion I wouldn't want to be as thin as her, that's her choice I don't want to lose all of my curves. I guess it just made me feel bad. You know how sensitive us chubby people are. Oh yeah I am no longer chubby. Anyway that is why I posted I figuered there has got to some other similiar body types out there and I was wondering what their Drs. or Dieticians said to them. Thank You For letting me vent!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
