Feeling tightness every time I move - 3days post op

Recommended Posts

So I have been home for a little over a day now and I'm trying to move as much as possible to get the gas out.

But every time I go to stand up I fee like my entire stomach area were the incisions are super tight and then slowly lose that feeling once I start walking around. Also the area were they pulled out the drain is still leaking.

I called the dr and basically told me that is all normal, but I wanted to see if anyone may have experienced something like this.

I got my surgery done on the 24th and I still have leakage from the drain tube too, and it looks pretty nasty, but I am told that is normal. I just keep a bandage on it. I also feel very tight after sitting or waking up and then loosen up as I walk around. Good luck to you!

Had mine the 23, this is normal, about 3 days from now it will be less. The area you describe is where they made 4 or 5 incisions and on the left is where they pulled your stomach out.

It's normal for it to feel tight. It will take weeks until you feel no tightness in your trunk but the pain will be much less very soon.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
