I am just curious next week will make month 2 for me. my SW:286 2 week follow up I was I believe 274 now I am in between 264-261 so far I only lost between 10/13 pounds this month from my first visit which seems like it is not enough am I not doing something right? I walk when I can't make it to the gym I have been cleared for solids but it always comes back up so I've been doing Protein if anything Water, applesauce, grits, oatmeal, or baby food. However I don't eat the 4-6 meals I believe a day because I am still getting use to eating again and chewing followed by drinking but like I said my main concern is am I on the right track concerning monthly weight lost?

14 pounds is 5% of your total body weight at time of surgery. Let's think about that -- 5% of your total body weight gone in 1 month. Keep in mind, you probably came home heavier than you went in to the hospital because of the IV fluids. It will take your body a minimum of 6 weeks to heal from the surgery.

In terms of eating solids, keep your portions very small (2 ounces) and chew very, very well. As in chew it until its the consistency of babyfood but in your mouth. Don't eat the baby food, oatmeal and grits. Get rid of the applesauce. If it's coming back up, you are either eating too fast or too much. Start with a scrambled egg. It should take you about 15-20 minutes to eat the entire egg, if you can.

Don't drink for 30 minutes after you eat. Period. Schedule your meals.

Get those carbs out of your diet. Right now, your life should be about three things -- Protein, Water and exercise.

But back to the first question -- think about it -- you have lost 5% of your body weight in 1 month. Let's think about how amazing that is. The pounds will come off. But you have to work the plan and get your head right. Eat slowly and mindfully. And you will be full and you will be able to get all your meals in.

Work the plan and the plan will work for you.

Best of luck

Wow!!! Thank you so much for that I will surely not eat those any longer!!!! You broke down actually what I need to do and I see my mistake with the solid food is how I chew because I don't chew until the food until it is in baby food form so that is where I am messing up. Thank you again! I really need to schedule my meals as well that is another error I see. Thank you for the push & the encouragement as well to my concern.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
