SENSITIVE INFO... today marked #5 of my liver shrinking diet and drinking 4 protien shakes a day is "hard" on the bowel process. I found these magnesium pills (MAG 07) last year during a 10 cleanse & they produce results in @ 3-5hrs depending on your body w/ zero cramps. The capsules are big but can be opened so the powder is "mixable". I intend on asking my surgeon if I can take this post op as well. JUST THINKING THEY WERE WORTH A SHARE ask questions plz I'll answer on my experience.

I take magnesium capsules to prevent Constipation (I'm two years post-op). Not those particular ones, though. I just get CVS brand magnesium - either magnesium citrate or their "triple magnesium" capsules.

How much do you take? I am pre-op and already struggling with constipation and hemorrhoids.

you kind of have to play around with the dose to see what works for you. Too much and you get the opposite problem - diarrhea. I take 2000 mg a day, but that's a magnesium blend (citrate, oxide, and something else). Supposedly too much magnesium can hurt you, but the PA at my bariatric clinic said the main kind we can absorb is magnesium citrate. So he told me to get magnesium oxide or a magnesium blend. We don't absorb the other kinds, but you still get the laxative effect, so it's not dangerous. You might want to start with about 400 mg and go from there. As in try it for a week or two and if it doesn't do the trick, increase it a little. Rinse and repeat.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
