The most asinine way of choosing my surgeon...

Recommended Posts

So, I have two more medical weight loss classes and I have to choose a surgeon from the practice.

I think.

And I'm going to go with Dr. Quaid.

Not because I have any understanding of his experience, how many surgeries he's performed or his bedside manner... it's because the picture on the practice's website of him looks nice. I know this is the most asinine way to choose a surgeon and I know that I shouldn't judge a book by its cover. However, the only way available (that I know of) to meet and get a feel for the surgeons is to head to the Light for Life post-op support groups at Poudre Valley Hospital.

Which are held once a month... from 6-8pm in a city I don't live in without access to public transit at that hour. Also, the May meeting is not happening because it coincides with Memorial Day.

Suggestions?

Can you schedule a consultation appointment? You may have to pay the office visit fee but it would give you the opportunity to personally meet with the surgeon. I found meeting with the doctor helpful in making my decision to have surgery.

Oh, I've already decided to have surgery, the question is who I am having surgery with but I do like your idea and I'll contact my surgeon to see if it's doable. :)

Are there any YouTube videos you could watch? Maybe their informational seminar is available online or they have a YouTube channel?

They should do video conferencing.

The only YouTube video I could find was this one from the Vein and Laser Centre of Northern Colorado... I think it's the same guide, his bio as he describes it hits so many points with his bio on the Northern Colorado Surgical Associates website.

Apart from that, I could find no YouTube channel for Northern Colorado Surgical Associates, nothing comes up when you search that in YouTube in quotation marks. And considering how short this video is, this is kind of a bust.

I've phoned the nurse line for the surgical practice this morning because I have a few other questions anyway (i.e. what is the pre-op diet and something a nutritionist said to me about how bariatric surgery has to manipulate hormones in order to lose weight, which I think is BS but I want to see if there is any truth to this claim), so might as well ask if and when they phone back.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
