I finished my last nutrition appointment on 5/3 and was told they would start compiling my information to send off to insurance, but it could take up to a week. And then 3-6 weeks to hear a response. I was devastated that a June surgery wasn't going to be do-able. Well, TODAY- less than a week since my last appt, I got a call that insurance was approved. My surgery is scheduled on June 19th, with my pre-op appointment with a nurse practitioner being June 2nd. Woohoo! Here is my timeline for anyone looking for a timeline. I believe I was approved over night. I talked to the nurse on Monday 5/8 and he said he was compiling the data to send to insurance. And then yesterday (tuesday 5/9) I received a call that I was approved and could schedule surgery. WAYYYY faster than they told me.

What insurance do you have?

I have UHC through Medicare. I found out, after going through a ton of crap with my surgeons office, that I did not require prior approval. So, technically I didn't have to wait for approval, but due to a poorly organized Doctors office, I finished my prerequisites on 2/23/17 and did not get my date until the beginning of May. My surgery date is 6/21/17. I was going crazy trying to get the date and now it's less than a month away!
I hope you get a quick response from your insurance. Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
