Hello all! I'm having surgery on 10/19 with Dr. Marsden in DFW. Anyone else on the site use him? He seems very nice and I know he's done thousands of procedures - just curious if anyone else has used him? Any advice, or what to expect would be much appreciated!

Looking forward to my last diet ever :)

I used Dr Marsden in May and had a great experience. I had to have my surgery at Wise Regional because of insurance reasons. It was a very nice hospital! I asked him to call in my prescriptions a few days prior to surgery so i wasnt waiting at a Walgreens right afterward. He is very laid back and his office has always contacted me immediately no matter what it was in regards to. I havent seen Marsden since my post op as he does not do fills. My scars are very minimal and with time you wont hardly be able to see them. Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions I can answer!

Life will never be the same :)

I have used Dr. Marsden as well. He is really a great doctor and has done well over 500 lapbands. He used to be a heart surgeon and won many awards. He has skills that are unbelievable. I am only 3 weeks out and 4 of my 5 scars are almost gone. He is really easy to talk to. I also had my surgery at Wise Regional bc of insurance, which was like an hour away for me, but the hospital is really nice, cleanand the staff were great!

The only advice I have for you is to take it easy. Don't be expecting to run a marathon the day after surgery, your body will be healing so take it easy while you can. I really thought that I would be back to "normal" after 2 days and I was depressed when I wasn't.

After surgery you will have to call and schedule your post-op appt, which is 2 weeks after your surgery. He will talk to you about how you are feeling, check out your incisions, etc.

You might also be surprised at how liberal his post-op diet is. Days 1-7: liquids, Days 8-14:mushies Day 15: all food as tolerated. Just take it easy when introducing new foods. And also schedule your fill by calling SCOR the same day as your post-op. They are running about 3-4 weeks for the earliest appt for fills. My first fill is scheduled on Oct. 18. I can't wait!!

PM me for more info and don't worry, you will do great!!!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
