When will I feel better

Recommended Posts

I know the answer- everyone is different. But I'm struggling and would like to know when others felt better post op. I had my surgery 5 days ago and I feel depleted, like I'm going through life in a daze of Water and Protein Shakes. I have been able to get my Protein in the past two days and also have a few teaspoons of broth tonight. I just want to feel like myself again and be present for my husband and son.

It will get a little better each day but it will not happen overnight. It took me 6 months until I reached my happy state when most of the problems seemed to melt away.

I'm just starting to feel better. The pain went away 6 days post-op. I'm almost two weeks post-op now.

My day right out of the hospital I went walking with my sister and a bicyclist plowed right into me a knocked me on my back. Luckily nothing "burst" except the sticky bandage over the drain hole that split my skin like a giant paper cut. This cut kept my attention for 2 weeks so I don't recall being miserable about anything. I do remember a LOT of passing gas and queeziness.

It all passes (no pun intended). Your big problem will be gas for the next six months. I suggest disposable cushions for your car.

You're in a transitional and healing phase of the surgery. The first 12 weeks are all about what you are eating. Think of it as time you must give to healing your body. You will slowly get your normal life back and be with your family. I remember post op thinking my life will never be the same. Which is a load of crap! Take this opportunity to heal and lose weight in the 1st year. You're life will be back to normal in no time with all the good and bad things. But you will be healthier (take vitamins) have more energy you'll be running in backyard with your son. Putting on your size 10 sexy jeans while your hubby chases u around the house...trust me it's worth a little discomfort at the beginning.

I wanted to update that I am on day 9 now and I seemed to turn a corner yesterday. I woke up more rested and felt more like myself. I was also able to work from home a bit which helped me get out of myself for a bit. Today I went to Target and got a pedicure. I'm down 15 lbs already and I'm thrilled with that.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
