Recommended Posts

I've been watching a bunch of YouTube on things people have be consuming during this getting ready but I'm hitting a wall of not finding products I like.
EVERY Protein Shake I've tried is so nasty! And I don't like hello or popsicles... so would love anyone's suggestions EsP on the Protein part !!
Thank you !

whey Liquid Protein. It's like a vile of fruit punch you can add to your Water. 42g of Protein per vile. Found at Walmart.

Premier Protein ready to drinks also found at Walmart. I only personally like the chocolate flavor. 32g Protein.

** I add 1 vile of Liquid Protein to 32 ounces of Water so it's not so strong. Tastes decent and the highest protein I've found in a liquid form.

Have you tried the unflavored Protein Powder? You can add it to juice or maybe crystal lite you don't taste it. You can add it to Soup or hot coffee/tea, but it can't be any hotter than 140 degrees or it changes the texture. You can use a kitchen thermometer to check before you add it. I like to use it in my coffee.

I HATE most protien drinks. But I love my premier protien.

Walmart has 4 packs and costco has 18 11 oz bottles for lime $25. There are 5 flavors I know of. They have bananas and cream (I hate banana usuallybut this is tolerable), the vanilla is the best vanilla shake I've had (usually another think I hate) and the chocolate is definilty my favorite. I ordered the strawberry flavor on COSTCO.com (like strawberry quick) and caramel which is pretty goodness too.

Thing I like is that it's smooth- not gritty or chalky. I haven't found a powder yet that I can get past 2 sips.

It is a bit sweet, but you can cut it with almond milk (or any milk really- I just gave up milk bc it made me break out).

The dannon oikos greek has 15 gms of protien.

You can have cottage cheese.

I never did it, but chocolate pudding (sugar free) with a scoop of protien powder.

Lasagna bake- basically one egg and one cup of ricotta cheese with Italian seasonings on the bottom of a small glass dish. Top with sugar free (or low sugar) sauce and bake 350 for 25 minutes. I cut that into 4 servings. There are actual recipes out there for it, I just wing it, but that's the basics.

Good luck! Find stuff now you like bc you won't want to have nothing when you get to the soft food stage post op.

Premier does seem to have the smoothest and great flavors. And your recommendation of the lasagna bake is great, I had this after surgery (soft food stage) and it was awesome!

I have recently found individual packets from my local CVS whey Protein and the strawberry and Cookies and cream are amazing. I cant do protein powders with Water always fat free milk. I have also found waters on Amazon with protein i will be using in my liquid phase. 4 bottles a day and get all water and protein requirements. I will not be worrying about can i handle this, when trying to recover from what I've read so far. The trick with protein powders is to blend WELL, like shake hard for 5 minutes. Coworkers now tease me that I'm about to start "tagging the place" because it sounds like a spray can lol.

Need some help, Monday May 1st is my surgery date I will be getting the gastric bypass. I am doing my pre op diet doing Protein shacks Jello Water and I am starving. Is there anything else I can try to stop wanting to eat everything? I keep counting down my days until Monday just so I can get over this part. Ideas?

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
