I went to see my surgeon yesterday for my 6 month check up. I have 1.4 pounds to lose to meet his weight loss goal. My official 6 months post op will be 20 April 2017. My surgeon and NUT are extremely happy with my progress and said that I have a greater chance of keeping the weight off due to my early success. I am so happy. I think that I should be at his weight loss goal before next Thursday. This was the best decision that I could have ever made. Who would have thought that being a loser could feel so good.

Great job! I've got my 6 month coming up May 1st (it will actually be about 7 months).

Had my 6 month checkup today. Nutritionist and bariatric doc are very happy with my progress.

My surgeon is still anticipating another surgery in the fall. He feels a "weakness" in my stomach now and has a plan to address it once things have settled down and healed more. They'll free up the muscles on both sides, then draw them together in the middle, eliminating my big scar and dealing with any other loose skin they can at this time. It should minimize the bulge I have now which is a combination of scar tissue, and muscles that aren't knit together well enough yet down my center. I'm not looking forward to another big surgery (they can't do this laparoscopically, they'll need to slice me open again) but if that's what needs to be done then I'll do it.

All 3 told me to not worry about losing more weight. I've lost 63% of my excess weight (158lbs.) and they consider that (☠️complications aside) a complete success.

Got my test results from bloodwork yesterday. Overall is excellent. They want me to take B12, and some extra Vitamin D, but everything else was within range including Calcium, Iron and Protein.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
