3 weeks post op cheat

Recommended Posts

So I've lost 30 pounds and have been sticking to my nutrition plan but woke up last night finding I had eaten some hard candies! Yikes! I feel like an ass

Well unless you went wild and at the whole bag I think you're ok. I had to have hard candy around post op because I would get sick at my stomach and having peppermint helped that sometimes. Just forget about yesterday and start today :) don't dwell on it. Congrats on your weightless so far and wishing you much more success in the future :)

Appreciate the advice. I always beat myself up. Thankfully it wasn't the whole bag. Sugar addiction is real.

I think you're OK. Anyone who says this surgery "fixes" any sort of food cravings is crazy. I crave sweets all the time still.

If it makes you feel better, about 5 weeks after surgery I had alcohol. It was Christmas time and I come from a heavy-drinking Irish family that doesn't take "no" for an answer when they offer you food/drink. And I survived. This is going to be the reality of the rest of our lives. You're going to have good days, and bad days, just like if you were trying to lose weight the "normal" way. The only big difference is now you have a tool to help you, like using the bumpers in bowling :)

Good luck! And don't beat yourself up!

Thank you so much! I'm just going to move in from it and try to keep in mind I'll have good and bad days like you said. Thanks again

At 3 weeks out you're still healing. This isn't about "cheating", it's about safety. There's a chance you can damage something and give yourself a life threatening leak if you eat something off plan too soon. Just keep that in mind.

I think one interesting thing in your post is that you describe an almost out of body experience while eating the candy. I'm certainly not berating you, but I think it's important to take 100% responsibility for our actions. Statements/viewpoints such as these are dangerous for foodies like us. If we don't own it we don't control it. Please try a free kindle book I tried called Never Binge Again (even if you don't Binge) it helped me differentiate from me and the "mint monster" in a way it had never been explained to me before. I hope it helps you as well! Good luck and don't beat yourself up!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
