Shrink my body shrink my head

Recommended Posts

I'm about 11 weeks post op gastric sleeve. Things are going great I'm down about 58 lbs since I started pre-op in September. My body is shrinking great, my mind is whacko tho.

Ive started these past couple of weeks to become hungry (ravenous) it's not as easy as it was in the beginning. I started going to therapy bc this time I really want give it my absolute best shot! I hear "you need to do the work" on this site all the time but I'm not really sure what that means. How do I change my head? I've come to understand some things already about why I maybovereat but I'm still HUNGRY! My therapist said I don't need food I don't need food but I genuinely feel hunger (I think). I'm doing an ok job of staying in track I'm just nervous about how difficult it's been these past couple weeks.

My questions to you are is it too early to be this hungry? Can I be genuinely hungry with my tiny stomach? Or is this emotional hunger?

And what do you all think "the work" is? Understanding why I overeat? How in the world do I ever conquer this?

Thanks for reading. Getting through this time is challenging to say the least.

I say put your body to the test. If you feel hungry go ahead and eat. Your body is hungry when it needs nutrition. Feed it something good and healthy. If it's still hungry it's in your head. Go for a walk, journal, clean something:-)

I'm 6 weeks out and make a conscientious effort to not feed my head junk. I just feel like even one nibble will send me down the wrong path.

Good luck!

I can totally relate to your post, you are not alone feeling hunger. I often feel hungry in the evening and yes, the need to feed my emotions is an ongoing challenge. I do the same as the previous poster, when I feel hungry I have a small amount (bite) of a high Protein food, such as Jerky, meat, cottage cheese, etc. or drink Water. This usually nips my hunger in the bud. Not sure if you are working out or walking, but I notice that when I do I am frequently hungry in the evening so I try to save some calories for a high protein snack. It helps with my real hunger and I feel satisfied, not deprived.

Try upping Protein, it staves most hunger. I think you're onto something though, if you think it's emotional hunger, it probably is.

I can't say this enough, a lot of us here have had eating disorders at one time or another, maybe some still struggle with it, and generally it's a life long issue.

Try support groups too. It's worth a shot. Groups like OA have all sorts of support and help to keep one accountable, plus hearing stories of others who struggle with some very similar and not so similar eating issues helps.

I think that's something most Bariatric people ought to try, is addressing various food addictions. People don't gain because hey have everything under control.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
