Plantar fasciitis post op

Recommended Posts

Several years ago I developed a case of Plantar fasciitis that lasted a month or two and was alleviated with some physical therapy and inserts. It has not returned since until this week, 3 weeks after my VSG surgery. I find it very weird that Im losing weight and it came back. Anyone have this type of issue following surgery? I assume its from all the walking Im doing.

I had plantar fasciitis last year for about four months- painful! It returned right before my surgery three months ago, but is much milder and usually only noticeable in the morning. What I have had come up from all the increased walking is knee pain. I'm now in physical therapy for that.

Mine went away completely after the early weight loss from surgery. Are you walking more? PF is the worst...

It's most likely because you're walking more. I have to be aware of my plantar fascia (left foot) as well and of my achilles tendon (right foot).

Stretching and foam rolling helps a lot!

You also might need to take a look at your shoes. I had a long lasting case of PF about two years ago when the weather was warm enough to wear barefoot shoes again and I walked too long in them too soon after having worn heavy shoes throughout winter.

My doctor and I traced my battle back to some blisters which turned out to be excema.
The blisters altered how I was walking and that led to extra strain on the PF. That became about a year of drugs, stretching, night Splint, physical therapy, 2 cortisone injections, and shoe inserts.

So I would look at how you are walking-your gait. Weight loss may have changed your balance or the way you move and that is causing the PF problems.
Stretch as much as you can as often as you can. And I wish I did the first cortisone injection when the Dr first suggested. I wanted to try other methods first but that cortisone really made a difference.

Oh yeah...that walking would do it. I've had to stretch and rest to finally get some relief. It's not so bad now, but I can understand it can come back once the exercise has gone back up. In the past, I limited my cardio and just stuck to weights. I think that's what helped me. Stretch, less cardio, more weights. That's my formula.

Perhaps you should look into better shoes with the support for your particular foot type? I have super high arches and had PF bad. I only buy shoes with great arch support.

After a few sessions of laser therapy and taping, it has gone away thankfully. I also was fitted for new custom orthopedic inserts.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
