Hello y'all, I'm a Newbie!

I've been lurking around this wonderful website for awhile and finally found the courage to join y'all. A quick intro: I'm 58 years old, happily married Florida lady who was banded Sept. 26, 2007, just 4 days ago!

I've investigated various weight loss surgeries for 2 years since I was diagnosed with Diabetes. The Diabetes was being controlled with meds until the past 6 months or so,when my numbers were going up, UP, UP! The weight increased too. Frustrating! Enough history.

Surgery on Sep.26th went well, with an overnite stay and my husband there with his loving support and help getting me out of bed and walking me around. This is the first day I've been downstairs and computering...I need some advice.

Here is my question... I'm on Clear liquids for the first week and have no complaints since I understand the stomach needs to heal. But, how much

chicken broth, tea, Water, does one consume at a sitting? I'm not sure how much Fluid the pouch will hold, or does it go thru fairly quickly?

I'd like to thank y'all for the support you can offer me. Best of luck to everyone. ;)

Hi Irisheyes123! Welcome. I've Been banded for 11 days and i am now on creamy liquids like yogurt, pudding and Soup. For me, the first week was the worst. I couldn't drinks a lot at first. My doctor advised to take a sip every 15 minutes at first, then try every 10, 5 and so on until some of the swelling went down. Hope i was of help. Good luck and Keep us posted!

Hi Pamela!

Thank you for the reply. Good to know there is someone out there 'listening'. The Clear Liquids my first week is monotonous, but knowing new foods will be introduced when my tummy is ready is good to know.

honey - everyone is so different, it's really up to you, I wouldn't recommend mush more than 1/2 cup per sitting at a time, until you can guage what's comfortable and what's not..... if you are not hungry, don't eat(sip) anything - you will know when you are ready. Even when you are up and running - my surgeon says 1/2 - 1 cup 3 times a day is enough to sustain your body, just make sure you are also enjoying a good liquid multi vitamin..... cheers K

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
