1 Yr Bandiversary - Thanks for all your help

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

My one year band anniversay is tomorrow and I wanted to take a minute to thank everyone for such an informative and helpful site. I'm down 60 lbs from my highest weight and would like to lose another 20 or so.

The lapband has changed my life and you guys have helped me immensely in learning how to live successfully with my band. I had no problems losing the weight (over and over and over) I just couldn't keep it off.

I've gone from sitting on the couch to training for an adventure race (it's next weekend and is 15 miles of mountain biking and about 4 miles of trail running) and I've been asked to be in an infomercial for my surgeon about the health benefits of the band...bottom line; at 46 years old I'm healthier than I've been in years and it's due in large part to Lapbandtalk.

..you guys rock!! :clap2:

I don't post much anymore....I feel a bit out-of-place since I didn't have as much to lose as most, but the lapband has changed my life and you guys have helped me immensely in learning how to live successfully with my band. Joanie, I do crave sweets but it's my own fault. I went into this thinking "I'll never have to diet again, this will be a lifestyle"....reality is that sweets and junk slide right down, so I continue to struggle with my love of chocolate. The difference after the band is that I feel I have my weight under control.

I was a volume eater, so in addition to the sweets I would eat fast food junk and lots of it. I now can't stand french fries, or anything else that's fried. The taste from chewing to liquid is gross when there is grease all over the food....(my opinion of course) :-)

Tracy,

I have finally found a truly horrid before picture. It took a while to find since I shied away from cameras...so I'll post before and during pics soon.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
