I made myself a promise before surgery. This would not be in vain. When I woke up in recovery, I knew God wasn't done with me yet. So that meant it was time to get busy learning to live again!!

All I have done is follow the plans provided and committed myself to this journey.

I walked routinely Day 1,2,3, etc. Even walked in the mall!! I started elliptical right after my post op appointment. I've committed myself to working out and watching my consumption.

Trying to take advantage of the hormone imbalance and make major improvements in my lifestyle.

I can tell you that in 4 months I've eaten out once, due to delayed flights. My wife and I spent a week in Jamaica, we committed to working out everyday and I requested special meals to be prepared.

Learned to always pack extra food. Starkist has 2.9oz tuna fish to go cups. I've taken this to basketball games, planes, work, etc.

Push yourself to try something new, your tastebuds are changing. I never enjoyed Soup, however I've found an appreciation for soup.

Sugar Free popsicles are what I consider a cheat snack.< br>
I prepare my meals and have taken full ownership. Because I'm saving so much money on food, I sometimes purchase the expensive high-end healthy snack/food item.

Always carry Water, always carry Protein.< br>
I love Fairlife Milk - high protein and low sugar.

Grocery store shopping takes time to read labels. Learn to do this.

Get comfortable taking your time to eat.

I am now lifting weights, doing cardio (I did 30min on StepMill last week- personal best!!). This morning, I did the Ladder-mill.

Go to support group!! Take Vitamins and supplements.< br>
Get comfortable setting timers, consumption is consumption. If I'm in a meeting with others I still have to get done what I need. No excuses and I'm not worried about them. I'm my new focus.

You can do this journey. You made it to post op, you can survive. You signed the medical release form, you can do this part!!!

Thanks for the encouragement!!

Just wait until someone doesn't notice you!!! I've heard, I know the voice but not the face.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
