Stressed! Help!

Recommended Posts

I am seeking others that can understand what I am going through. I had surgery almost 5 years ago. I am 14 lbs away from my goal weight! It seems like that is so far away. My body has been through so much and I am still going through somethings. 3 months after I had my surgery, I had to have gall bladder surgery. I went 2 years doing well. In that 2nd year of having the surgery, I had 2 hernia repairs! During that time, my husband and I were trying to get pregnant. We were not able to get pregnant at that time.

In that same year we found out that I was pregnant the day before I was to have an Iron fusion because of my low iron. ( this was in October of 2014) In January of 2015 I had to have bowel obstruction surgery while I was 3 months pregnant. I was in the hospital for 9 days and was not able to eat for 7 days. I thought I was going to die, but I knew I had to stay strong for my unborn son. My pregnancy was great and stress free after the surgery. Then I had a c-section which was fine. Went well! I had gained 50 pounds during my pregnancy. I was 20 pounds away from my goal weight before I got pregnant. About 9 months later I had to have another hernia repair.

Here I am almost 5 years post op and I found out that I have H. pylori. I took antibiotics for that! ( 3 medication to be exact) it messed with my stomach really bad. All I could do was drink liquids! Now I find out that I may have another hernia! I am tired all of the time! I don't have the energy to exercise. My eating is horrible, because I can't really eat anything because of my upset stomach.

I guess what I am looking for is someone that has had problems like this since they have had weight loss surgery. I apologize for this being so long, but this is the first time that I have really expressed how I feel. I have kept so much inside and I have finally decided that I wanted to let it all out. I am so afraid of what the next step will be. Oh yeah and by the way, I am moving to another town and is trying to pack the house and fix it up along with my husband!

Any advice and encouraging words are greatly appreciated!

Wow :( Your plate is most definitely overflowing.

With all those hernias, it may be that your body is a bit malnurished, making it harder to heal. Are you taking your Vitamins and getting Protein?

After antibiotics it is important to take Probiotics.

Those are the first things that would be good to work on. Talking to a counselor might help your overwhelm.

[Hugs] Hope you start feeling better!

Thank you Berry78. It has been a little difficult getting my Protein in and taking supplements because of the H. Pylori. I am not to take Calcium and Iron with the antibiotics. My Protein Shakes contain both iron and calcium. It is very frustrating trying to get rid of the bacteria and trying to stay healthy and up beat. I am on my second round of antibiotics because the first round did not get rid of it.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
