I'm finally 6 weeks out. Finally food, meals, not just ingredients. My head says carbs and bigger portions. My stomach says He'll No to the bigger portions, and I'm terrified of eating the wrong carb or getting dumping syndrome while at work, so I'm freaking out about the carbs. And I want chocolate but that's got to be my head playing tricks on me. I do believe in everything in moderation but if I had the tools the practice moderation in the past I wouldn't have needed gastric bypass surgery to begin with.

There is a support group meeting at my hospital on Monday evening, I'm going to try to go but am working a ton of hours this weekend. May just have to drag myself.

That reminds me, I did very little in the way of exercise during my first 6 weeks, time to bite the bullet and start a routine. I've found a time that works most days, 2:30pm, now I just have to do it.

I fear failing, I need a push, I don't have a family and at an age where my friends are all busy with their kids and spouses. I need a support system, it's hard to stay on track now that the novelty has worn off and my body has finally healed.

Try your best to go to the support group!

I attended a monthly group pre surgery and found it to be immensely helpful and supportive. I got the answers to all my questions. I'm 3 weeks post and can't wait for my next meeting, everyone is waiting for me to share my experience!

PS. I haven't exercised at all! ?

If you eat your Protein first there won't be much room for any carbs. On my plan I'm allowed 2 multigrain servings a day and 2 fruit servings a day. But that serving is usually only 1/4 to 1/2 of what a normal serving is IF I've eaten my Protein first.

The multigrain serving gives me the crunch I crave and the Fiber I need to keep "regular".

As for dumping, I never eating something out in public that I haven't tried at home first. So far, in 4 months I've not had any dumping episodes.

You will not fail I promise! Stay on here and ask away!! This is my support group. When you have cravings for chocolate don't ever tell yourself no just take one morsel of a chocolate chip and let it melt on your tongue. That will ease your mind. As far as eating to much I still do this at times. You will finally get tired of the puking and your mind reset telling you No! I hope this helps.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
