My new not so new stomach

Recommended Posts

People often ask me what's it like post op. I'm almost 4 months out. My explanation. Have you ever been around a baby when it's being fed? Yep that's me. They eat one bite yay, then the second. If my tummy decided it didn't like the first, even if it did 100x before. You guessed it out it comes. So the story of my new life. Finally able to eat eggs and sausage for a few weeks. The inside of a sausage burrito from McD's. This morning "roo" my pouch says nope I no longer like that. After working a 10 hour shift at one client on my way to a 5 hour client now I just want to go home and hug my specially devoted trash can. Ugg.

So I regret my decision, not one bit, but some "roo" cooperation would be nice

Sorry to hear that you are not having an easy time. Luckily I haven't had anything that disagrees with the ole pouch. I haven't been sick in a few weeks (thank goodness). I hope it passes soon for you.

hang in there it will get better. I am 13 years out and there is very little I can not eat. sometimes I wish for the old days when my eating was more limited but I have never regrated it for a moment.

I'm only a month out. it isn't so much what I eat, but how much. I am learning. There is no last bite. If my stomach says "I'm good". Stop. If I don't I'm miserable. I hate the nausea.

TxJess I'm trying to learn but not getting it. I dump often. I'm trying to slow, chew, stop. Teaching old dog new tricks is hard. I hate the nausea so I will figure it out. I have a very touchy pouch. Pork, chicken, eggs are off limits at 8 weeks postop.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
