All you girlies that are fed up and feel a bit let down that the weight hasnt fallen off yet, dont give up on your band :)

You havent found your sweet spot yet, and you will believe me.

You wont feel hungry, just as well cos you wont be able to get hardly anything down anyway, and this is what I am looking forward to.

I say this from experience, if only I had known then what I know now.

I didnt get regular fills, cos of the cost and I thought I had reached my sweet spot. I know now that the only time I felt right was after the long haul flights, like I have told you before.

For the 2 weeks I was in Florida, which was the last long-haul before my band broke, all I could get down was Soup, and ( I am ashamed to admit to this, but I did need something ) was Peanut Butter M & Ms.

And when I got back I had dropped about 10lbs.

I thought this is it!!!! But it wasnt, my band loosened again and I stopped losing it. I should have had a fill straight away then, but I didnt notice the signs for a while.

Thought I would give you back heart girlies, cos when you find your sweet spot, it is easy to lose it, how do you think all those other people have done it.

After all they didnt have the will power before, thats why they opted for the band, so the only way they lost it was because of the band.

Anyone else got anything to add, or maybe the benefit of their experience, please tell us, its good to talk and discuss and to stop us feeling like failures.:(

Sorry Sammy babe, I wont be travelling to London, a bit too far for me I think, from Cheshire.

Shame cos I would like to see you, your Mum and Harrison again.

Manchester would be ideal, but I think maybe I'll have to opt for Sheffield.

Hi Jo,

Are you going to Belgium for your op?

I did enquire privately but the charge £300 per fill! I know they do the op in Aberdeen on the NHS, I don't know if you could get fills there on the NHS or privately.

Chris goes to edinburgh once a month to do fills, I got my first fill on the 23 April, my husband and I made a night of and drove down to Edinburgh, I'm going for my 2nd fill on the 28 May, I'm taking the train and coming back the same day, the return journey costs £22.50, the fill cost £90. When I went in April he said it's best to have the first 3 fills in quick succession, so I guess I'll be going back on june 25th.

Phone Julie on 07872963503, if shee has no appointments, jush push a little and she'll slot you in, it only takes 5 minutes and some time to drink a glass of Water to make sure you haven't been over filled. Any time your in the Ness drop me a message and we can meet up, OK

Hi just for all you pre bansters about to get done if you are going to get your fills done off someone else make sure you you ask dr chris or frdrich what size and capacity your band is before you leave.

I have had a lot of trouble trying to find out what size mine is.

For all the good care i got off dr chris and his team in belgium the after care i have recieved since i had the op is realy poor.

When i had my op at the end of oct i was told i would get my first fill at the end of nov they were over booked so i had to wait till dec.

When i got my fill in dec i was in and out his office in 5 min.

I went back in to recption to book jan fill only to be told that that jan was fully booked and i would have to wait till feb for my next fill. For me that was unaccetable so that is why i went to wls group for my fills.

I got the package off them unlimited fills for six months which i thought was a good deal.On my first visit i was in wendys office for 35 min which was a big change from 5 min.

She asked me loads of questions about how i was doing and i asked her loads of questions that i wanted to ask dr chris but did not have the time to.

She gave me lots of advice on diet and what i should be eating after fills and the coming months which i found realy helpfull.

As the months went on i was nearly up to my capacity of the band 9-11cc.I was sitting at 8.75 with no restriction at all.So wendy asked me to email dr chris to ask my capacity of my band just to check this was the capacity as he has this info on his laptop.

So i emailed him 3 times over the space of 3 weeks i also sent the same question to fredrich three time .I am still waiting for a reply off dr chris.

I got a reply off of fredrich after the second week only to ask before he can tell me could i please tell him who i am getting my fills off of.

I told him it was wls group and i am still waiting for a reply.

So wendy emailed dr chris and asked him for the information about capacity of my band.He replied the same day to her as her email had wls groups email attached as she fowarded it to me.So he has obviously been ignoring my emails

He told her that anyone who new about band fills should know how much to put in and because i had been given the booklet from the hospital he did not need to provide any more information because this had all the information on it that is needed.

He then told her only the patient by law can have any information on the op and they cant give this information to a third party. But attached to her email was the one i sent him so i am the patient.

So i am still not any wiser to what is the capcity of my band .Sorry to go on so much but i just think people should know this before they go .

I agree with bobo i have stayed with fred for fills but when i asked him what size my band was i didnt get a answer i also mailed dr chris i was just curious about my band size but i got a reply more aless saying anyone who knew anything about bands should know the size of my band and i looked at my booklet several times and it doesnt state size anwhere i dont know why he just didnt tell me size of my band as i am staying with them for fills and aftercare i was just curious and i thought it was quite ignorant not to provide such a small piece of information about the band... my friend also had the same experience when she asked the size... so take bobo's advice make sure and ask when in the hospital but i have to say the care in belgium is brilliant and i wouldnt think of going anywhere else if i had to do it again but i do feel there should be more aftercare available wls seem to have scales that give u all ur info and they give u alot more advice included with the fills

I was told on my 1st visit for a fill the size of my band.. i think there a bit peed about patients going else where for fills and thats why they wont say, which is a bit childish, you should be able to go anywhere that you feel happy about and not feel as if you have to stay with them for your fills. i must say i never feel rushed when i go for my fills with frederik, he asked me questions about how im doing and about my diet and exercise and asks do i have any questions for him, i would of gone with wls group the only reason would be it would work out cheaper and you can have your fills every 2 weeks, the only thing is there isnt 1 any where near to where i live x

band sizes arent shown on your post op info, but on the heliogast booklet you should have got, there is a barcoded sticker with the date and your name on it i think..it says somewhere on it either 'HAGE' or 'HAGA'. the hage band is the heliogast evolution band, which seems to be the most usual band chris uses for women. it takes 7-9ml fill, and the HAGA is the heliogast advantage band, which is for larger patients or men usually..im not sure on this but i think it takes 12-14ml fill. i know i found this out through some heliogast website, and i did state it correctly about 2 or 3 months back. so see if you can find it on the paperwork you were given post op. thats terrible and not right what he said about anyone who knows anything about fills should know what size it is!..how could they know!? it could be dangerous just guessing, and any reputable fill provider would never guess. i know wendy said she would not fill us without this information, so it must be that important Gillian x

When i went for my pre op evaluation the night before surgery dr chris gave this whole speach about the different bands he might use on the day depending on what he thought would be best. However i dont think that anyone on here has a different band to the ones mentioned by gillian. From this thread its obvious that the aftercare offered is not the best but i do agree that the care given in belgium is fantastic. I think the main problem is that they need to employ someone else as frederick cant handle the amount of aftercare patients they have, if they had another member of staff maybe he would be able to spend more than 5 mins with each person which is reasonable if you are giving them £90! The needles and specialist Water only cost me about £200 and i have 100 enough to last the rest of my life!!

yeah carriejess i think the same they need to have another fill person in ireland they just come once a month to dublin i think it would be great if they came to belfast too and gave the option of getting a fill every 2wks and make fills more accesable as im near 9months out and no restriction if i had to be able to get the fills every 2wks it would of been great benefit to me and others but he is a brilliant surgeon just if they could offer that little bit more aftercare

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
