I had a successful sleeve surgery 4 days ago on 1-18-17 but have been having hunger pains. It's very discouraging as this was one of the reasons I had the surgery. Is this common, has anyone else experienced this?

Hi -

I also thought I was having hunger pangs but it turns out that acid reflux or indigestion or the like often feels like a growling stomach to me (and others, as my dr. told me.) I was given a prescription for pepcid and it worked to eliminate those hunger like feelings.

I was hungry the day after surgery and it has stuck. I was nervous and discouraged too. I couldn't really get full either. I didn't over eat ever, but I felt like I was eating too much. However, I went to my 3 week follow up and I was 25 pounds down! The doctor said he would have been happy with 15 pounds. Just work through it and get your Water in. You got this!

I had my sleeve done on 1/19/2017. I am on Pepcid and it sounds like my stomach is eating itself. The noise it makes! I'm back on the shakes starting today, hoping that helps!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
