Another-another Newbie

I am new to this site, but I have been banded since April 9, 2007. My hightest weight was 250 and I am now down to 219. I have just recently found out that my band may have a leak. I was have had 4 fills and they are not getting out what they have put in. I go in Monday to have this check to see where the leak may be. A little nervous, as I had no idea that they could leak this soon. I want to let everyone know that this is a complication that most physicians don't tell you about.

Take a deeeep breath. I know several people with slow leaks, and all they did was use Omnipak instead for the fills. Worked great. Onmipak is thicker than saline so it doesn't leak out. Be sure to ask for it if they suspect a leak. One gal I know has had Omnipak for the last 4 years and has had absolutely no problems with it.

yes, there was a definite leak. The good thing was that we had this fixed quickly. They found the leak on Monday, I had surgery yesterday and am doing great. We still don't know how the tubing/port was damaged, probably from a fill, but we are back on track again.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
