So I started my journey back in May. My insurance makes you wait at least 6 months before they will approve surgery. In November they set my surgery day for January 31. After that I did exactly what you SHOULD NOT DO!! In my mind I was saying ok I'm having this surgery and not going to be able to eat the things I do now so I better eat as much as I can. WRONG!!!!! I gained 11lbs from Nov 30-Jan 16 when I want for my last dr appointment before surgery. At that point I was 6lbs above my start weight and we could not do surgery unless I got back under my start weight. I was so pissed and had no one to blame but myself. So I have been VERY careful of everything I have put in my mouth this week and I start liquid pre-op diet on Tuesday. Hoping to lose 6 lbs in this 2 weeks.

Changing your relationship with food is a required ingredient for success in this journey. And doing it before the surgery makes everything a lot easier.

I hope it works out for you. Good luck!

I did that when I first started. I had my first physician assisted weight loss class in October and started feeling that way and then gained 5#by Dec when I meet with the doctor. I was told I need to lose 12.5 lbs before they'll schedule the surgery. But my 6 months of classes will finish in March. I was thinking about doing the liquid pre op diet just to get some weight off but I'm not sure if it would come right back after I start eating again. I'm walking/jogging and contemplating getting a gym membership to start adding some weights. I've got some time but don't want to wait to the last minute. I've got 8.5 lbs to go.

The liquid diet may help. But it's not very much fun! You may want to just try exercise and Portion Control for now and see if that helps. I know it's easier said than done because I have been trying to do that the past 8 years and that's why I'm here now. It is a little easier to eat better knowing if I don't I can't have surgery. You can do it if you put your mind to it. Good luck and keep us updated!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
