I'M OVER THIS!

Recommended Posts

UUGGHHH, feeling so disgusted,. not looking for a pity party, just venting.. its been over a yr. since my surgery, and I'm STUCK @ abt a 50lb loss. I just reactivated this acct and see that I am up abt 5lbs since I joined in March,. I've unfollowed people/groups on IG & FB, not that I'm a "hater", (I salute & congratulate everyone)...I just don't see anything in common w them anymore.. (also my nutritionist recommended it to focus on me)

my diet is usually: eggs & sausage, avocado for bkfst,

lots of Protein (mainly chicken) in salads or w sautéed veggies, etc. (have just started the "keto" diet)

don't like carbs believe it or not, not that I haven't "cheated" & had sweets here or there, but I'm not a bread/pasta/pastry person (thank God for @ least that I guess)

don't wanna go see my Dr anymore, I feel he's not helpful @ all, just recommending a book to follow. #wtf.. and the nutritionist was so/so.. have only met w her once.

my low points are not drinking enough Water & I'm CONVINCED I can eat too much @ one sitting. I even got a kitchen scale, haven't used it yet though. don't expect what I haven't put in, BUT I don't get why I've stalled so bad if I'm eating pretty well balanced & "clean".. what's the point of the surgery if we still have to follow a "diet" (and by that I do NOT mean I expect to still eat any & every thing that got me fat to begin with bc I don't)

thx for listening....

Start tracking your calories in myfitnesspal.com. Chances are, if you're not losing it's because your calories are too high.

No matter the diet or how your losing there is a stall in weight loss, it's like your body says ok that's enough and stalls you just have to wait it out. Just keep doing what your doing and at least your not gaining, let me know how it's going.

If you're not tracking what you eat, you really don't know how you are eating. I'm highly conscious of what I eat, have a great deal of knowledge about how many calories/macros a certain food has, but I still would be way off of my goals if I didn't log every bite. I weigh and measure everything. It's a pain but nobody said it was easy. In fact, all info is to the contrary. Surgery is merely a tool, without serious eating modifications and hard work it ain't gonna happen.

You can't compare yourself to others. Some people can lose weight without logging, exercising and breaking the rules. It's pretty obvious to me that I can't. But that's okay. Following a "diet" is the least of my problems. When I'm feeling sorry for myself, I think about a friend who has diabetes. Or another friend who has to have a colostomy bag. That really puts my poor pitiful me feelings into perspective.

This is terrible advice.

Look, something isn't working obviously. What do you do when something isn't working? You figure out why, and change it.

Start tracking and measuring. You can't measure where you need to be if you have no idea where you're at. What are your calories/protein/carbs per day? Do you know where they need to be in order for you to start losing again? Of not, experiment a little and find out. Tweak some stuff.

I think going Keto is a very good start. I also think you should shock your body a bit and start moving more. If you're not doing anything currently, start. Even if it's walking. If you're already walking, walk more. If you're already exercising, start a different routine. HIIT training and weights is an amazing way to burn fat. Your body needs a jump start to get things moving again, and exercise usually is just the ticket.

If you really want things to change, you'll find the change needed to make it happen. Good luck!!

Hey I am a lap band patient myself and I got stuck at 50lbs too so I ramped up my Protein to 90 grams a day and then started slowly introducing new foods again. Every time u get stuck or just can't lose it you have to retriever that sensor in your band to make it work. Remember it's just a tool for you its not the fix. I have many amazing high Protein foods and my own tiny bites for weight lose people like me to eat. Healthy and fun ..

i don't know how to navigate this board!!! ty all for reading & responding., i eat more than 3 bites of any and everything. meaning if i prepare eggs & bacon for bkfst, i never have just 3 b-4 bites & be done, ill finish them.. i'm not a heavy carb lover, thank god so its mostly anything i eat, being Protein, veggies, salad.. is my pouch stretched already!!?!?!

It's not about how many bites you can eat, it's about how many calories you're taking in, how many you're expending through exercise and how that balance is affecting your weight loss.

You say "eggs and sausage"...how many eggs? How much sausage? Cooked in oil or butter?

Are you drinking before/with/immediately after meals? Are you still following the 'Protein first' rule? So many questions :)

If you think you're following plan and you're not losing, then you need to start religiously logging...you can't make any changes if you don't know precisely what you're doing.

As time goes by and we lose more and get closer to goal and maintenance, it becomes even MORE important to be diligent about what goes into your mouth. I'm 7 months out, my honeymoon period is OVER and I'm buckling down to grind out this last 30 lbs, and guessing/estimating what I'm eating is NOT going to get it done.

Tracking what you eat is the best starting place. You need to focus. Try not to graze all day if you are because you will eat straight around your sleeve. Set yourself up for three meals a day and supplement with a Protein shake if you're starving at some point in between. I think a lot of people get their lunches and stuff down by eating it over the course of several hours. If you're done eating, be done. Keto will focus you.

I also agree you should begin exercising if you have not. Weights, cardio. I do an hour of cardio 6 to 7 days per week. I work with a trainer for four.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
