Having trouble getting filled

Recommended Posts

Hi there. I am such a hard time getting filled. I have been twice in the last 2 weeks, 12 sticks, several different needles and done under fluro with not luck. I am SOOOOOOOOO bummed out. I can eat almost what I want and I know that I should not. I was unfilled last time by mistake and I am nothing in my band according to the barium swallow. Another doc is coming Oct 4th to try to hit my port. If that does not work I so do not know what I am going to do.

Thanks for listening.

I too have the problem with finding the port. You can clearly feel it under the skin. But found out last week that it had flipped upside down. The worst case possible. I will have to get it replaced, but I am hoping that I can lose a little more weight and with a little praying, the next fill he will find it ok, and reconsider replacing it. He drew a picture in my file so that it would be easier to find next time. Sick of getting stuck a lot everytime I get a fill, thank God that I don't need them often. Would love to know if anyone has ever had to have a port replacement.

I am going again tomorrow for a different doc to see if he can hit it. I am at my wits end. I now can eat whatever I want and having used up all my will power this summer I fear that I will be back where I started. I will give up tomorrow evening.

I had the same problem. My port was flipped. When I went in to have it reattached, it was supposed to be a simple in and out surgery. Turned out I had a hernia and had to stay the night in the hospital.

I have had problems getting fills too. The first two had to be under fluoro. It was finally determined, after countless sticks, my being almost in tears and a second opinion from another surgeon, that my port was not flipped but tilted at an odd angle. Plus, I was told that my port is actually lower than what the x-ray led them to believe. I was finally able for my last visit 8/13 to have a fill in the office and with only three sticks as opposed to so many that I would lose count. I just hope this continues with future fills. I hope everything works out for you.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
