Slimy, frothy (foamy) saliva

Recommended Posts

This is my 4th week after the surgery and I've been noticing for about 2 weeks now that when I throw up food or Water, I find my saliva to be be slimy, frothy (foamy). Is this normal?

Most of the time when I drink Water I throw up. I can manage about 100-200 ml Protein shake but not water. I am still on mushy foods. I wait half hour after I've finished eating my lunch/dinner and then consume water. But, this only makes me puke out the water along with slimy, foamy saliva.

I also notice that if I fill my stomach with food only up to 60-70% of the hunger that I feel, then I feel good and no vomiting. If I cross that I stuff myself a little too much and I'm 80% full, then there is a 100% chance of me throwing up.

Most people say they don't feel hungry, but in my case I do feel hungry. However, when I take in 4-5 sips of water the gurgling noises that come from my stomach stop. Does anyone else have the same issue?

Is this going to be the case forever? Will this slimy, foamy saliva stop?

Yes, I've had that too. It just took me a bit to learn what causes it with my body. Even taking too many Vitamins at the same time causes it. I had it bad for like a month, but now it's gone.

Try eating very very slowly. It sounds to me like you are maybe eating too fast or not chewing thoroughly enough and getting overfull before you realize it. I have had foamies (that's what it's called) twice post-op. Both times were from eating too fast and having something get "stuck" in my stomach or esophagus. It wasn't until I was able to throw up and dislodge whatever it was that the foamies subsided. If you ARE eating SUPER slowly and chewing very thoroughly and still getting foamies frequently, then definitely talk to your surgeon. You may have a stricture.

@@JamieLogical Thank you for your suggestion. I shall try and eat slowly starting today. Hoping it settles.

I was the same, they put a camera inside and said I had gastritis, this has now cleared and I have stopped vomiting that thick slimy saliva. They increased my anti-acids and it stopped around 8 days later.

Hope it clears up soon.

i get a knot if i eat to fast or don't chew it enough. As for Water it makes me nauseated and gives me heartburn. I have found alternatives to Water. I add some crystal light or some of the Protein juice nectar's with water right now im into tea. Its all about getting the liquid down. I too learned that i fill up with a WAY smaller portion than i originally thought possible.

You should be on an acid inhibitor. That caused a lot of my "hunger" feelings.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
