Keep at it. I lost alot of strength and endurance after surgery, but I'm now healthier and stronger than any point in my life. You'll get it back.

Again guys I was cleared to workout at my 2 week check up, I wouldn't workout if I wasn't cleared. They just told me to start of light and take my time. As far as Vitamins I'm taking them already I just don't like them, the Calcium is liquid and gross and so is the B12. I do have my meal plan and she said as time progresses she will up my intake do to the fact I work hard in the gym.

If you have a Kroger or an affiliate store near you, they have a store brand of chewable Calcium. I buy the caramel and it is so good! And does not cost an arm and a leg. It almost tastes like an actual piece of Caramel. They also have chocolate, but it is too rich tasting for me, but you may like it.

Had my surgery on the 12-12-16 and I'm down 34.6 pounds, got back in the gym Tuesday and wow, it felt like death, I never thought it would take so much out of me and make me feel so weak after working out. My starting weight was 447, surgery weight was 438 and right now I'm at 412 and some change. I feel great and able to eat 3 oz of food so far, I'm working on being able to get in a gallon of Water. It's been a smooth journey so far to be honest. I'm grateful for being able to do this for myself and give myself another chance and enjoy life. If anyone has any advice on the right Vitamins to take please let me know. I love working out and love lifting weights. attachicon.gif ImageUploadedByBariatricPal1483833052.250540.jpg

Hi grateful, I am very glad for you. It's great to hear when some is having a great journey. I went through a number of bariatric Vitamin before finding one that worked for me. My center set things up with a company called BariActiv. They send me my Multivitamins, Calcium, Iron and B12 spray. You center would have to call for you because the b12 is actually a prescription. What is great about it is, it is mail order. They just charge my flex spending card every month (if the price changes any they call before they charge you) and mail the to me. Each month I find a little box at my doorstep and it's great. It's definitely worth a try. They also come in chewable/dissolvable one or tablets/capsules. It chewable aren't bad just time consuming. I now use the tablets and it's super easy. I just called the company and told them I want the tablets and they changed it. I hope this was helpful for you and maybe others.

Congrats!! Being able to go to the gym does not mean kill yourself exercising. You need to take it slowly. I went to the gym the third week post op. I started two days with cardio 2 hrs and the third day I started with weights. My routine is 3 hrs 5-6 days per week with 30 mins cardio and the rest weights. The Vitamins I like are Bariatric Choice . They are cheap and they are awesome.

Try the Bariatric Advantage chewable Calcium. Then chocolate flavor taste like a tootsie roll. The coconut flavor is also tasty. Anything liquid form is going to taste nasty. Regarding your workouts there are days you will feel more energetic than others. You are only a few weeks out so give it time. Everyone's body is different. I would get dizzy up until 4/5 months out. The surgery is a big adjustment to our bodies so dont be too hard on yourself. You are doing amazing! ????????

Hmmm, I got the same packet of information in my 'going home from hospital goodie bag'. I might have to give this a try. I am currently using Multivitamin Patches but I forget to put the darn things on every morning!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
