Hello. I am currently in the pre op process. Should have surgery on 3 months or so. I had planned on sleeve but surgeon is recommending RNY. I'm

Still researching both. I have a new question. I was diagnosed late in life (40) with ADD . Honestly it was life changing once I found the medication for me. It's probably been as life changing as I anticipate this surgery will be. But the med I am on (Vyvanse) is long acting. I did not tolerate the short acting ones well at all. I'm concerned if I go the RNY route the medication will no longer work. Anyone care to share their experiences with medications absorption post RNY? Any med, but ADD med would be a bonus.

From what I've learned after surgery your body does not absorb medication the same. I take an anti depressant that is timed released. I will have to change to the other type. Talk to your physician they will tell you what you need to do.

My WLS team says you will not be able to take time released or long acting at all with the bypass but with sleeve some much needed time released meds will still be approved. Since you need that you should research which surgery would be best!

Hi, I have RNY from 2011. I take the same medication as well. It works really well and kills my appetite. Honestly, I never had a problem with any medication. As a matter if fact they worked quite quickly!

I've had add my whole life and been on Med's for it. I've been on adderall Xr for years. My surgery date was 12/12/16 and I noticed that after the surgery the Med's didn't work as well but still worked a little. I just poured the granules into my mouth instead of taking it as a pill. I think I will probably be switching to the non xr after my next psychiatrist appt.

If you chat with your surgeon he may make some recommendations for you. I had RNY and take several medications and the only one i have had a problem with is thyroid replacement. It isn't so much about the absorption as it has been about keeping up with the weight loss and regulating it.

I am on a time released drug and that has worked perfectly. Pain medication however metabolizes much faster for me.

Also, I have found with time, medications that I once could not take work great now.

If you talk with your surgeon and your doctor they may be able to work with you on a ADD med that will work for you with the RNY.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
