Friday day of pre op diet. Already bummed

Recommended Posts

Just hang in there! It gets easier after the 4th or 5th day. Once the surgery is finished, you'll wonder how you were ever able to feel this hungry. Just remember that this is temporary. Keep yourself busy and remember the prize at the end of the journey! :)

I'm so afraid of the liquid stage I start in about 3 weeks. I wish you lots of luck. I get really emotional & down when I'm a long time between normal meals. My surgeon requires a skim milk diet for 2 weeks. I think it's insane. I know I'm going to switch in Protein Shakes occasionally to get me through. Anyone else have to do this milk diet? I've already lost 14 lbs and am now technically a bmi of 39.

Your doctor is only letting you drink skim milk? I've never heard of that. That's kinda bizarre, lol. I was on Protein shakes and basically anything liquid until the 7th day, when I switched to clear liquid (broth, Powerade Zero, Jello, Popsicles, etc.)

Agree -hang in there it will get better. This was the hardest part for me was the 2 wks prior to surgery. Stay focused each day. It is a very important part of the process & will be well worth it. Just stay focused thst this is for you & your surgery. I know from experience try to stay focused on your upcoming new beginning & not the food that you can't eat during the two weeks. On of the biggest things that helped me was the sugar free popsicles (but my surgeon told me that they had to be the 15 calorie ones -grape, orange & cherry box). It helped to be able to Bite into something & chew it -instead of just Soups, shakes, sugar free Jello & puddings. So if don't habe sugar free popsicles & can have them -try them -helps during these 2 wks.

It really does get easier after a couple of days. I am on it too right now. Things I forgot (I had to do this I 2007 when I was banded) is 1. Headaches!!! I don't know if it's the low cal or low sugar but I got headaches every night for a few days 2. Mood swings from being hangry! It dulls down more each day. 3. I hate the taste of fake sweeteners so instead of sf Jello or popsicles I would rather just drink broth till my eyes explode - but realized yesterday, my body made that swap where the fake sweetener stuff tastes like normal sugar. Wahoo broke the sugar itch. Hang in there and keep your eye on the prize. This is temporary.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
