Motivation to change

Recommended Posts

Happy new year to all. It was about this time last year when I went to my primary doctor to get my prescription filled for blood pressure medication. I weighed in at 321 pounds. I was borderline diabetic and not sleeping well.

About the same time, my bride of 9 to years also was contemplating WLS, so in March I saw an add for bariatric surgery at our local hospital. We attended the seminar and my bride was all in that night, me...m ah not so much . It took me another 2 weeks to commit. In the end, I did not want to sabotage her success if I kept eating the way I was, and her having this whole new lifestyle. She motivated me to get on the program. We started pre classes in May and started eating right away, small plates, walking, eating slowly etc. We both lost 25 lbs prior to surgery August 11th. I went first and she followed up 2 hours after I was done. Our journey has been one of the most rewarding things we have ever done. To this point she has lost 75 lbs and I have lost 80 from my starting weight at 308.

No longer on blood pressure meds, sugar levels are fine, and the sex is amazing for both of us. LOL.

Wednesday we went to NYC and walked over 7 miles without blinking an eye. We plan on being around for a long time to drive our adult kids crazy and see our grand children grow up.

Happy new year all.

Isn't the reason to have kids is so that we can torture and embarrass them? Keep it up and congratulations!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
