Scared of Parties!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone I'm 3 weeks post op and I'm terrified because tomorrow is my friends birthday (a lunch ) and I don't know if I should go.

I'm keeping my surgery private, so it's going to be weird just being there and not be able to eat.

I'm really thinking of not going but this friend is a very close friend.

What should I do sleevers?

Is it a lunch at a restaurant or a home party? People won't even notice unless you're all sitting around a table and your plate is empty. It's pretty easy to say "I'm not hungry" and leave it at that.

Stand around with an appropriate beverage in your hand. Sip it slowly. Talk and be socially engaged. Don't eat. I used to do that even before I had surgery.

Thank You for your answer I'll do that, and politely decline when my friends there try to give me food.

Don't go. At 3 weeks it isn't worth it. Rest.

Go, but say you've got an upset stomach and can't bear to eat anything but a little Soup....it's basically the truth.

I have been to many social gatherings since my surgeries. No problems, temptations, or comments from others. I just kept a glass in my hand and nobody questioned me. I am also keeping my surgery to myself. Best of luck to you....you can do it!

P.S. The problem I am dealing with right now are all of he sweets and treats we received over the holidays. I don't want to throw them out, but I don't want them in my home either!

Give the sweets to someone else?

awittywoman actually no, because the day after I was with some family that don't know that I was sleeved, and they were insisting for me to stay for dinner, and you know family especially grandmas, it's like you have to stay.

So if I didn't lie that I had an emergency, something bad was going to happen.

And i don't want to be in the same situation again since my friends party (the day after) was a family party and not in a restaurant. Sorry for the long reply

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
