11 days post op - help

Recommended Posts

Hi. I'm in the soft foods stage (everything has to be mush) currently. I just had a meeting with my surgeon and he said I have to be standing when drinking/eating. I find this really difficult because i have to be eating for 30 minutes, then drinking for 2 hours, then eating again. So I have basically no time to just sit down. Does anyone else have to do this?

He also told me to ignore when eating becomes painful and just keep eating. I'm currently eating just 2-3 spoons of whatever I'm eating, but he told me I have to eat a lot more, even though it really hurts. Does anyone else have to do this as well??

I was also told I have to be speed-walking 20 mins every day, going up by 5 minutes each week, and by the 5th/6th week I should be doing 3km a day in 50 minutes?? That honestly doesn't sound possible to me at all, even before surgery, and I'm really stressed about it. I don't mind walking I just... don't think I can walk that far/that fast?

Thanks for any answers!!

Maybe this will help you. I got my hands slapped for not eat enough and this seemed to help because it hurt. I take 1 bite every two mins. 4 bites I am full and i just eat Beans because it doesn't hurt. I use my fit bit and do 10,000+ steps a day in my house.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
