I started mushies and I am scared!!!

Recommended Posts

I started mushies today. I have had scrambled eggs, chicken casserole zipped to death in a blender and now I am eating cream Soup. The problem is that I am sooooooooo very hungry and scared to death of going overboard. I made egg salad with a little mayo, relish and dash of salt. But, I cannot have bread or crackers and I am thinking "WTF!!! What do I do with it now". I am honestly afraid of eating too much of the mushies.

This is what I know I can have: scrambled eggs, egg salad, tuna, oatmeal . Ok, than what else. I have been looking forward to mushies and now I am not satisfied.

I just hope that I can look back on this miserable time in 4 months and say "It was worth it". For now, I am scared, miserable and hungry.:help::think:think:think

Yo Claramae! Don't sweat the mushies. It should actually be a time of rejoicing because you are heading into the soft food arena and it's so much better than liquids! Do you like cottage cheese? Cottage cheese is another great mushie food. Don't worry about "eating too much"....once again, this is a healing time, not a strict losing time. Your band is not working yet. Also you can have things like fish filets (try the Groton flavored ones (Lemon Butter, Cajun, etc.). I ate a LOT of fish filets and Cottage Cheese during this time and actually I was pretty satisfied because I felt like I was chewing. Egg salad by itself sounds wonderful (a few bites anyway...cuz that's pretty rich stuff by itself...as you say, it is better with crackers). You're going great! Do NOT worry about the amounts you eat right now.

Thanks Kacee and yes, I do like cottage cheese. Someone also suggested a baked potato(minus the sour cream and butter). So, I will enjoy the mushies. I really did have to struggle to get this far.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
