8 lbs in a week is insanely fast. Please don't expect that you will keep losing that quickly. Also, be aware that most people hit a significant stall at about 3 weeks post op, so don't let that upset you if it happens. It is completely normal.

I am not sure where you are seeing people lose faster than you, but I can assure you that they are not anywhere close to normal and they may even be lying, or reporting weight lost based on their starting weight at a two week pre op diet or something like that.

The bitter taste in your mouth may be due to ketosis. There isn't much you can do about it but it does go away eventually, when you are able to eat a broader range of food.< /p>

As to cravings, honestly your healthiest option right now is to learn to deal with cravings by *not* eating anything. Giving in to cravings is what got us all to the point where we needed surgery. This is the time to learn to distract yourself, engage in self-talk about how cravings are unpleasant but do not need to be caved to, etc. You really want to come out of this post-surgery period working on a different relationship with food, where you are not controlled by cravings or hunger. Good luck!

@PinkAsh!

Oh yeah that nasty taste and breath. I did Listerine breath strips. They also sooth my stomach and make me not want to eat.

Are you able to sugar free favored Protein Water, chocolate Protein shakes or jell on your plan?

Yes the taste buds are going haywire after surgery. I am 6 weeks out and just now getting some taste buds adjusted. If you take Calcium chews try and space them out..they help me with the sweet taste (1500 daily so I take at 9am, 2pm and 8pm) it seems to help (love the caramel but they have other flavors) and then if necessary sugar free Popsicle. Good luck with everything and yes 8lbs is great...Just think of it this why....could you have lost that much in 1 week before surgery...That is how i look at it, don't compare your journey with others (just learn from them) :)

That's funny you're craving sweet. I was SO over sweet stuff because I had been drinking those dang Protein shakes for a month. I craved warm chicken broth so I would mix my Protein powder in some and drink it like tea.

That early out I was allowed to have sugar-free Jello and ice pops. I wasn't a big fan of the Jello but I loved the ice pops because they were different flavors and helped me get fluids in. I only used them the first few weeks though. I got burnt out on artificial sweeteners after that.

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
      Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

      Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

      Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
