Excessive salivation / vomiting after eating

Recommended Posts

Ok, I'm about 3 weeks and 3 days post-op. My surgeon at my follow-up 3 days ago said I should start trying to eat some real foods, and specifically said that occasionally I could have a piece of a small piece of toast. So, tonight I toasted a small piece of honey wheat bread in the toaster and ate it without any problem in about 3 minutes.

Suddenly, about 5 minutes, I start experiencing a lot of nausea and fullness. It basically felt like my stomach was filling up foam or something. I spent about 10 minutes excessively salivating and spitting into the toilet, until I finally threw up foamy some foamy liquid.

So, my question, what does this mean? Does this mean I had some kind of blockage in my stomach or does it just mean that i'm not ready for bread yet?

(Sorry for the gross imagery).

That's called the slimies or the foamies. It happens when you either eat too much, too fast, or the wrong kind of food. If you try toast again, eat a much smaller piece and eat it much slower.

I am 5.5 mths out and haven't tried bread yet. With Protein first, I just don't have room. As you add a new food, go very slowly and try one new food at a time. I have not had any issues with eating.

I believe you didn't tolerate well the toast. It happened to me a couple of times when introducing new foods. First time I ate soft fruits and also first time I eat scrambled eggs at 3 weeks (allowed in my plan).

Too much food too fast, and it's coming back up. Eat more slowly. It's easy to overdo it while we learn our new limits.

Remember foods that swell, like bread, rice, Pasta, etc. will fool you so you have to stop early, before you think you're done.

I had the worst time when I was pregnant post sleeve, because I kept overdoing it.

Slow pace, small bites and tiny portions. My nose starts to run when I'm full. You'll learn your signals soon enough.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
