Oh the brain is the strongest muscle we have... It can destroy your goals or fuel them. But YES this journey is as much mental as it's physical.

You are in a mourning stage. It WILL be better... YOUR brain is just realizing the change in lifestyle is serious now.

Keep busy write Christmas cards write a journal... But don't sabotage yourself... Its only hurting you!!you can do this. This is what you have prepared for.

The 3rd day after my surgery my dear brother decided to throw a family Barbecue because several of my loved ones wanted to visit me in the hospital and as custom we Celebrate we eat we cry we eat we lose a loved one we eat so he planned a Mexican Carne Asada... I was so upset... I cried as I poured my broth. I couldn't be outside of my room the smell of the meat on the grill was too much to handle. I asked my mom...why did he do that?? I asked for strength and joined my company outside... As everyone was eating their food I was sipping on bland chicken broth...2 ounces.

I made this meal 5 days after my surgery. We had 12 or so people here. I didn't miss a thing. I did this partially to prove to myself that it really wasn't a big deal. Most of this surgery is mental.

I'm in week 3 and just now going through this. Not so much about what I can and can't eat, but I'm mourning the amounts. But trust me, if you mess up once and feel that pain, it does a lot to curb those mental cravings because you know the pain! I'm not suggesting to cheat as a way to learn, but want to encourage that it does get better and we can learn!

@ sleeveisa... that's how I feel like every time liquid goes down it hurts. I was sleeved on dec 5 and at first it was downright pain, now it's still uncomfortable but about a 4/10 pain. I was saying to myself the doc told you that the swelling plus the extremely smal diameter of your new stomach will be uncomfortable so just relax Diana.. it will get better. But I feel every liquid going down and then I feel an ache. With the weight, I have lost 9 lbs since day of surgery( 6 days ago). I feel like I wanna have a BM and nothing happens so I need to call doc to ask about Miralax . I am urinating normal again. at first , sorry if this is TMI, my urine was golden and it was very loud ( odor wise).Nurse at hospital said it's because I was dehydrated and the more I'm able to drink , the more diluted my urine will become and so far she didn't lie. It is now straw yellow and there is no smell . But our body is adjusting and I know it's gonna get better for us all. My abdomen is still very sore especially my larger incision. I feel really tired also.

Okay, I'm done whining, lol. On the positive side, I am drinking every 15 min 1 oz Fluid, I'm walking daily and remaining positive and no nausea as of yet. We are all gonna work this sleeve out.

I'm on the same boat. I was finally discharged last evening. My belly feels worst at home. I even weighed myself and looks I gain 2 pounds. My daughter said it's the Water from the IV. Very painful drinking broth. How's everyone with the weight and the drinking?

It hurts so much but I'm drinking slow.

Oh goodness... that looks delicious...I'm gonna drink a strawberry kiwi clear Liquid Protein shake to that meal, lol...[but you know what, even though it looks delicious, I just feel like my goals are so much more important than going back from whence I came. I've come to far to turn back now .quote name=High functioning fat man" post="4342935" timestamp="1481496035]

Sip and wait sip and wait sip and wait. I was painful for a minute until I learned that. The actual sleeve stomach it's incredible swollen and tender from surgery. So even a tiny bird sip can be felt. And for sure the IV will add tons of weight!!!!!!!!

Good morning Jackie. It certainly will. Be extremely proud of yourself for making it through the 1st of the holiday season. Also for being conscious that this is only head hunger. I am 10.5 weeks out VGS and I revert back to stage 1 and 2 quite often because most times I am still not hungry. God bless you on your new life journey. You will do fantastic.

I'm just about 3 months out. I teared up and felt very saf at dinners last week and this week. I just want to eat a meal. My stomach is being fickle so I'm taking it easy. I know this temporary and as I heal, I will tolerate more. I know in the long run, I will be better for this life change. I'm going for a radical change in hair style in a few days to perk me up. I love changing up my style so I am looking forward to it!

I'm 3 months out and I can eat anything. I eat 3 meals a day. Why can't you eat a meal?

I got depressed the first time I walked through a grocery store after my surgery. All the foods I can never eat again.

Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app

Don't be depressed! What the docs don't tell you is that you will eventually be able to eatwhat you want, you're only going to be able to eat just a little bit. Remember this is a tool and a Jumpstart to weight loss. I'm 3 months out and I can eat anything I want. I just eat in small portions.

I had my sleeve done Wednesday.. I was on a 2 week liquid diet and occasionally lean mean at dinner. I didn't cheat once.. I made it through thanksgiving and all the leftovers without touching anything.

I'm not hungry and I recognize it's just head hunger and cravings but im just so sad because I'm just mourning all my past habits, I suppose. I see foods in tv or commercials and just crave it. I guess you can say I'm in the regret stage of it all. I think once I can move on to at least full liquids and keep progressing I'll feel better. I'm hoping...

I am concerned that you are eating solid food (lean meat) when you are four days out. You should still be on Clear Liquids this week. Then, thick liquids beginning on day 7. Then, soft/pureed foods, beginning week 3. Eating solid foods too early can cause a leak & other complications.

The mental hunger is normal & will eventually fade, especially once you get to the solid food stage & certain foods you used to love either taste different now or make you sick.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
