Anyone have liver soreness with pre-op diet?

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I've been reading the forum for the last few months in preparation for my big day. I want to thank everyone who takes the time to respond to questions, as well as tell their stories, I've learned so much and you all have been a big source of inspiration!

Now for my question, I have been on my pre-op diet for 10 days and have been compliant. It's the standard Protein Shakes (my surgeon did recommend that our Protein be at 30 g or less in the pre-op phase which is different from what it seems everyone else is doing), sf jello/pudding,broth, and sf drinks. My surgery is scheduled for tomorrow AM and I've noticed since yesterday that I've had some noticeable soreness where my liver is located in my right lower quadrant and up towards my rib cage. It's not gas, a pulled muscle, and I've already had my gall bladder removed years ago so I was wondering if somehow it could be related to the liver shrinkage? Has anyone else noticed this on their pre-op phase?

Thank you!

Yes, totally normal. Your liver is detoxing too. I had the same type of pain and concern.

Had lapband surgery 10/12/16

Whew, glad to know that someone else had the same issue. I was worried something might be "off" and with my surgery tomorrow, I didn't want anything to complicate things.

My surgery is in 2 days and I just noticed that pain for the first time today.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
