Wheat thins at 5 weeks out?

Recommended Posts

I'm five weeks out. I've had to improvise on things I can eat since many foods on the doc list I can't tolerate. Any thoughts?

Crackers have little to no nutritional value.

I am also in my 5th week out, and I can eat so little that I have to make every bite count. Carbs, especially starch, are the reason I gained weight in the first place. I get a much more significant blood sugar spike and insulin response from starches than I do from sweets.

Also, despite the mantra about "healthy whole grains", from you look at the glycemic index, whole grains have a longer and more pronounced glycemic effect than plain white bread.< /p>

I would clear it with your NUT or surgeon. Those crackers are very sharp and have hard edges. At 5 weeks, I would be careful. As we all know, each plan is different. For me, the crackers are a no no.

Don't get into the habit of replacing carby stuff with the Protein you're supposed to have instead. Find foods high in Protein you can tolerate. You only have so much room in there, make it count.

I had just mentioned in another thread how some people with the lap band get into trouble and stall or gain weight back by eating slider foods like crackers and such because unfortunately the protein rich foods seem to get 'stuck' and won't go down. Obviously you're not a bander, but having tolerance issues, but I would stick to soft food and even shakes before I would turn to that stuff first. Sometimes you have to take things a bit slower or even go backwards until you're ready to try new things and be able to tolerate them.

Whole wheat crackers without seeds are encouraged in my plan starting from week 4 - but only 2-3 crackers and only if you have room after you eat your 3oz of Protein. I often eat 2 "open to nature" wheat crackers (very similar to wheat thins) after I eat my egg+cheese in the mornings.

Crackers were approved on my plan when I started purees as long as they were low fat. I don't eat them daily and I only have 3 or 4 at a meal but it's nice to have something to put egg salad or deli slices on.

Wheat Thins can be sharp so make sure you chew them thoroughly.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
