First time puking

Recommended Posts

Well, I finally made stupid choices and ended up with stupid results.

Just an FYI, I am officially cleared to eat all the foods.

I went to an Asian restaurant yesterday and ordered my favorite shrimp fish to split with my friend. I managed to forget it was breaded in rice flour, and I didn't even consider that it was deep fried. I also ordered Chinese greens. I ate two shrimp and a few bites of greens. I was feeling panicked and full and like I couldn't breathe. I took 3 sips of Water (something I've absolutely not done since surgery) and immediately headed to the restroom. I threw up before I could even get the door locked. Uuuuugh. I went back to the table, but I had to immediately get up again and throw up again. I decide to try eating another shrimp with most of the breading knocked off. Nope. It came up, too. Great job, genius! I then had a 6 hour car ride home, my guts screaming and groaning, unable to so much as sip water without further angering my guts. It was pretty miserable. I got home, drank some broth, and listened to my guts further gripe and groan. All I could think about was my total Protein intake of 0 for the day and how my long, beautiful hair is going to fall out.

Lessons learned: Don't eat friend food. And sure as hell don't eat carbs!!!! I won't be experimenting like that again for a very, very long time. Just because you're cleared to eat anything doesn't mean you can eat anything...

Oh but we all try it!! No one can tell you what it feels like until you have been there done that!! LOL It is funny how we go along fine and then we eat something and it happens again. I can eat something this time and be fine and then try the same thing later and NOPE we are NOT fine. It hurts like HELL when we throw up. You can chalk this up to learning our pouch's!! They can be very touchy. Sorry this happened.

Yeah, with the DS your best bet is to stay away from anything fried, sweet, and too fatty.

And @@rolosmom7, I've never thrown up since surgery 2+ years ago. Yes, I'm rubbing it in. ;)

I do think DSers should have fat not limit from everything I have heard from them. Having DS Jan or Feb for DS however I have heard they do dump on occasion but it is rare

I have only thrown up twice and for me both times were caused by over eating.

I am now two + years post op and recently had a few moderate episodes of dumping syndrome. I am so thankful that i never had a full blown episode.

I did something stupid. I was hungry late at night and had a simple bowl of product 19 chocolaty delight Cereal with lactose free mile. First, the cold milk make my stomach hurt, within 10 minutes i got sweaty and the worst part of all of it was my heart started to pound like crazy and did not stop for about a good hour.

Think i learned my lesson? NOOOOOO because there was still a whole box of Cereal left, I forgot about that reaction and thought i could have a bowl for dinner given i had met my Protein goal for the day.

Same darn thing happened only worse because i ate a fuller portion of it.

That is when it hit me that i was having an episode of dumping. The next day, I threw the box of cereal in the garbage. Wont be doing that again anytime soon.

I just never thought i would get it given i am over two years post op and had never experienced it but it definately was dumping syndrome.

I didn't say not have fat. I said don't have anything TOO fatty, like deep fried stuff. I totally agree with you. Good fats are good for us.

Sorry you had to go through this. Thankfully, I'll be a distant memory in a year or two when you're eating everything. :)

Consider trying it again in a few weeks. That's what my DS practice recommends. Sometimes it wasn't good other times it went down well. If it still isn't good, I'd wait another couple of weeks and try it again.

I have learned that whole milk and most cereals will cause me to throw up. I have no problem with 2% milk but whole milk will have me sick for 1/2 a day. Most cereals will also cause me to have the dumping syndrome. oatmeal and cream of wheat are fine. Just have to learn the hard way what you can and can not eat.

Shrimp in general had that impact on me early out, I learned to try all new foods at home first LOL

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
