How Are You Getting Back to the Grind after Thanksgiving?

Recommended Posts

Hopefully, you did not do too badly this year. You may have focused more on the turkey and salad, and less on the dinner rolls and butter, mashed potatoes and gravy, and pecan pie than in previous years.

We didn’t all get through Thanksgiving unscathed, though. With so much delicious food, each dish more tempting than the next, and no end in sight, it is hard to stay in control. There may have been a few too many helpings, or a serving or two of foods that are not on your WLS diet.

But, the damage is done, and it is time to move on. How are you planning to do so? Share your strategies for getting back on track, from forgiving yourself to throwing away the leftovers to restocking your fridge with the lean Proteins and fresh vegetables that will fill you up and help you lose weight!

Doing a lot of things around the house, put in a new kitchen faucet for example, did a lot of cleaning, also things on the computer to get moving. Will do more tomorrow but am doing some computer work off/on because I'm quite sore. :)

Lots of water/Powerade Zero. Bringing on the veggies now.

Did a great workout before which helped, but also cutting out a little carbs to even out this weekend and increasing cardio a little

I feel so much better today than I did yesterday.

I am 3 years out and my 1st Thanksgiving I was sick with Stricture's so I couldn't eat or drink. Then last year I over ate somewhat. But I was ok because my overeating wasn't too bad, I had lots of restriction. Now this year I had a plan I decided tthatI would just take what I really love and be very selective. Well, I did that exactly. I had a little bit of Turkey, 2 tbs of dressing 2 bites of cranberry sauce and a bite of fruit salad. My stomach had been cramping for a couple of days (my grandson had something that he shared) So almost as soon as I started eating my pouch wasn't liking nothing. So I did get sick. We left all of the food at my daughter's house so there aren't to much to tempt us here!! In fact, we are making Split Pea Soup right now. All is GREAT here at the Scharbrough's house.

I chickened out and didn't have my surgery last year as I'd planned. I ate what I wanted for Thanksgiving this year, including stuffing and pie.

And totally regret it. I'm ten pounds heavier than I was this time last year, and I think I'm FINALLY ready to get sleeved sometime next year (probably May or June when I'm done with my second semester of nursing school so I can be healed to do the physical work in clinicals in September).

Tomorrow I start over tracking Protein and calories; I will start attending support group meetings ASAP, and as soon as finals are over on Dec. 15, I'm going back to my surgeon with my tail between my legs to start the pre-op process over again.

@katanne. Just a tip. You can still drink Premier Protein shakes (30gr protein) for two weeks as a dry run and the weight loss will be significant Good luck

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
