Can't eat meat - when did you like meat again?

Recommended Posts

My plan allowed me to add salmon and other fish Week 6, and chicken, ground beef, and turkey Week 7. I added bacon back into Breakfast last week, too. The only thing they advise to wait on is steak, with a recommendation of 4-6 months.

I haven't had any problems with any of the meats at all. I eat about 2 oz at a time.

Have you talked to your team about your body's reaction to meat? If so, what did they say about it?

What kind of meat are you eating? I ate a lot of fish and seafood at first. I wasn't allowed steak until 6 months. I still rarely eat chicken because it is so dry there is always a chance it will get stuck.

A lot of the meat that people eat in the beginning like tuna, are hard to process. If you like seafood. Soft white fish is your friend,

Roasted chicken or chicken breast in can (like tuna) is moist..cut in small pieces and rember your chewing technique...thin cut (lean) meats are better to digest..still chewing technique..hope that helps for you and things get better☺

At 3-4 months post op, I could not tolerate beef, and I was too scared to try other meats.

I ate mainly chicken, turkey and fish.

At 5 months, I tried veal and lamb, had to be very moist, and I was OK with them.

Then I tried pork, and this was fine with me, too.

I was on Nexium as well, 40mg.

Just because meat makes you unwell right now, does not mean that you won't be able to stay away from it forever.

Give it bit of time, like few weeks, and then perhaps try meat that is minced/ground with lot of sauce in it, and see how you go.

Stomach takes 6 months to heal, so with time tolerances and tastes may change.

Good Luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
