Is This Normal

Recommended Posts

I had revision from bad to sleeve on 11/14/16

Since then I've ONLY lost 2.6 lbs. even though I have not been taking in much of anything.

And I GRATEFUL for that lost, just don't understand why it's not more.

Also, I am Extremely Bloated, which also restricts my intake.

Can anyone explain?

Most people get pumped full of IV fluids for surgery, and it can take several days or even a few weeks to lose that Water weight. Many people have lost nothing at your stage, or are even still up in weight from their surgery. The fact that you have lost that much should have you delighted, not upset.

My best advice -- stay off the scale at least for the next few weeks. Your body is still recovering from surgery and you are very likely to be hitting a true stall at about 3 weeks post op (most everyone does). Don't let this early period stress you out. Work hard at following your post-op recovery plan and orders and don't worry about other things right now. Good luck!

I was so disappointed at my first post-op appointment. It was 14 days and I had only lost 7 pounds.

I was told it is normal because of all the swelling and Fluid retention. They must have been right because suddenly I was dropping about 5 pounds a week. It has now slowed down to 1-2 pounds a week at 4 months post-op.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
