Straws put air into your stomach. Since your sleeve isn't going to get bigger that will always be the case.

I've been using straws since about day 5...

No issues here.

And so, The Great Straw Debate, or Strawgate, returns...lol.

Lots of us use them-- without ill effect. They don't stretch anything and they don't introduce too much air. If anything, they nicely funnel the liquids into your tummy... Less than with gulping, that's for sure.

You NEVER use straws, right? Lol

Interesting...I'm about four weeks out and accidently used a straw a week ago and man I got nausea, discomfort and actual stomach distension!!! Maybe I'm just sensitive!

Do you all chew gum too?

Yeah, I know they say not to and the air, Yada yada. But I've seen quite a bit of sleevers on IG that use straws down the road, so my question is aimed towards the ones that use them.

Thank you @LisaMergs. I thought they'd funnel nicely too. So I thought it was strange that I'd have to stop, but it could just be my mind rebelling. Haha. I drink from a straw all day, every day. It would be odd to stop. But I guess if I have to for a while, then I will.

I use a straw every single day. I've walked into my surgeon's office drinking Starbucks through a straw and he didn't bat an eye. Your sleeve will not stretch if you suck in air.

My doc said straws are fine, there's no risk of damaging our stretching the sleeve. Some people swallow more air worth straws and that can cause extreme discomfort. Some people actually swallow less air and do well worth straws from early on. I have used them since recovery in the hospital, no problem. I hadn't been using them lately just because the cups I was using didn't have them, but I ended up with a different cop at work this week that did, and I doubled my Water intake.

So count me in the straw contingent.

I drink a slushy tonight for the first time will it hurt my stomach i am 7 month remove i went from 335 to 210

Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App

It depends on what kind of slush (like a slurpee from 711?) and how you handle sugar.

I really badly wanted a slurpee but no one in my area had any sugar free slurpees. I made one myself with crystal light and ice in my ninja. Not perfect but close enough.

I use straws too. My surgeon said it was ok, it was up to me and my reaction. I havent had any negitive experiences.

I've been using a straw since day -100. My surgeon made light of anyone being able to use a straw without sucking wind. **MY SURGEON** HA!! Go figure that.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
