Not as excited as I think I should be?

Recommended Posts

Ok, I definitely want my December 16th sleeve surgery, first and foremost.....but.....I don't feel really happy or excited or even motivated about it very much. I am taking medication for depression, so I know that is a factor, but shouldnt I be pumped up and ready to conquer the world? I have a slipped band and feel like a failure and I keep focusing on missing holiday foods and being miserable or not succeeding more than I feel potential for the future. Did anyone else feel this way this close to the date and what if anything made you motivated. I am so upset about being upset.

Several people in my pre op group wanted to surgery off till after the holidays and two actually did even though in one case her insurance was changing on 1/17. My nutritionist called this "an extended last supper". Eating or weight loss? Decide what's most important to YOU and do it.

Can you make some counseling apps to discuss your worries. BTW, You do know that a few weeks after surgery you will be eating again? The thing is you probably won't want too.

I suffer from depression for years, I decided to go ahead for my Dec 7 surgery because I want to be healthy and feel happy. We all deserve to be happy and healthy. I'm sure you want it too.

I felt like I couldn't breath a sigh of relief until it was done and I felt like I was past any complications that might come up. So, after a few weeks and I was feeling better and the weight was coming off...then I finally got excited. And that has continued. Still love to see that I haven't gained and even more excited when I loose. Wishing you much success.

There's a normal period of 'grieving' food. It doesn't last very long. You're completely normal :)

You're definitely normal! There are a LOT of different emotions heading into a surgery like this, and you've got the 'baggage' of a malfunctioning band, too. I'm very thankful that I had my VSG in the summer...heading into the holidays is another hurdle, but just think of how GOOD you'll be at all of this by January!

Im glad to hear Im having "normal" feelings and not alone! I just read all these amazing stories of struggle and success and thought fireworks should be going off by now for me. I hope when I start my pre op diet in December it will feel more real. Thanks everyone for the support.

For me, I have to dial back my excitement until the event in question is about to happen.

I build up too many expectations and literally kill the fun by ODing on excitement otherwise.

I had to ask my mother in law to stop talking and asking about our wedding months and months before the date, because I was starting to dread the topic every time it came up.

In order to function in my life, I must focus on putting one step in front of the other and cross bridges when I arrive to them.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
