What to take to hospital

Recommended Posts

I have not personally had my surgery yet but work as a nurse and have had several patients that over pack really you only need the clothes you wear which I won't have on long so u can wear them home. Ur phone and charger. Gas x strips (highly recommended). Personal hygiene products. Slippers. U will spend most of ur time sleeping.

Honestly, I didn't need anything but my phone and charger. The hospital provided everything, down to the lip balm. Besides, I was pretty wasted on pain meds and didn't do anything but sleep.

Good to know, I'm just taking a large purse for hygiene products and figure they will give me slipper socks in the hospital. And I'm packing a change of undies to go home in.

I took my robe, slippers, iPad, phone, charger, medicines (they didn't have one of mine), contact case, toothbrush, toothpaste, underwear, and change of clothes. I was pretty well set.

If you have any meds that are exspensive take them with you. I only took my phone charger and phone. They charge you for everything wether you take it or not. Except the exspensive meds.

I took pjs to change into before I started walking and my own slippers...I hate hospital gowns and those socks. Hygiene items, phone/tablet/chargers. A book if you don't read on a tablet.

The only thing I'm taking that hasn't been mentioned- a long handled backscratcher, in case I itch and also to reach things I can't. But will take all advice to heart for the future Rosey deflating and re alignment Day!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
