When I did my pre op diet of seven days. It was soo hard especially with my mom eating around me and finding out I'm allergic to sugar free stuff

I did cheat with a little yogurt and a bite here and there and felt emotionally weak but it happens...you have a full sized stomach, gherkin hormones and more ...

Pick up the pieces and start over! Interestingly, I was so sick from vomiting and diarrhea, my surgeon allowed me Protein powder with forbidden skim milk and celery and carrots finely chopped I in my broth so it's not like all or nothing

Not saying cheating is okay but also saying calling yourself a failure isn't useful or helpful and this is not likely a prediction of how things will be post op bc you will physically feel totally different and not likely hungry

Thanks for the feedback. Family is not supporting me. They think I should be able to do this myself. Down to 214 and I cheated! Yes I couldn't live on fluids. My surgery is Monday 11/21/16, and I'm so close to cancelling. I'm so stressed out. Family says I'm going to be miserable, crap myself, be angry, lose my hair ( I love my hair). They are being mean and won't support me, they think I can do it on my own. Struggled for the last ten years and nothing helps with the weight loss. Thx for letting me vent.

I am so sorry your family is not being supportive. THAT has truly got to be the hardest part of this for you. But at this point, you have just one day to decide if this is really the best choice for you. Don't just cave in to the peer pressure around you and cancel it, but on the flip side, don't just have the surgery to "show them". It really needs to be the right choice for you. I had mine five days ago, and I am definitely having reality bite me in the butt. I went to all the pre-op meetings and classes, did all the research, and knew exactly what was going to be expected of me to make this a success. But that's different than actually living and doing it. (Which you've found out on the liquid diet!) If you do this surgery, it will be weeks, if not months, before you could potentially "cheat" again...at least without hurting your tummy. So the question is, do you have the will power to do it?

As for your fam's threat-astic little jabs, they can go jump in a river. The truth is, most of us wouldn't be facing this choice if we could do it ourselves. We'd just have done it! And your body is fighting you. I read the most interesting (and terrifying) article that talked about our body's "set points", and how every time we gain weight, we can be essentially creating a new "normal" for our bodies, and when we try to lose weight, the body can actually sabotage that (by affecting our metabolism, etc) to try to get us back to what it thinks "normal" is. Surgery is one of the few ways to reset those "set points." Of course, the irony is that the surgery process and subsequent life changes can be as hard (or harder) than just "eat right and exercise!"

As for your hair, yeah. You might lose some. But it grows back. You might get angry or feel a little depressed because you'll be mourning food. And, well....I'm....not sure why they think you're going to soil yourself, though? I've not heard about that or experienced it. Sound like they may have resorted to making stuff up. "All your toenails will turn purple and fall off!" Yeah. Okay. Whatever.

If you decide to do this, I hope you have at least one person who will help you through the next couple of weeks. It's gonna be a little rough, and remember -- YOU WILL LIKELY SPEND A LITTLE TIME REGRETTING WHAT YOU'VE DONE. 'Cause it will be weird. It will be a little hard. You'll be thinking about food and Water ALL the time. And it's even possible that your family will try to sabotage you in little ways, especially during the holidays. But that will pass, and the weight will come down, you'll be in ONEderland soon, you'll have less pain in your knees and feet and hips and wherever, and you will get healthier. But if you have a negative mindset going in, it's not going to magically change going out.

It's okay to cancel, or even just re-schedule the surgery if you need to, to give yourself more time. You are the only one who knows what's right for you. Not your family, not us.

I wish you the absolute best, dear, and I hope it works out. Keep us updated! If I had a hug emoji, I'd put it right here

I'm on day one of the pre-op diet. I have to do it for 14 days. I haven't gotten much sleep the past few days so I'm crazy tired and not having coffee is painful. Does anyone know why we can't have caffeine on the liver shrinking diet?

It IS DIFFICULT but after a few days, no cheats, tge hunger pangs dissipate until you pass someone with your favorite food aroma flying all in your face!!

And remember after surgery, the hunger hormone and most if your tummy is gone so you feel very different then now

No failure

I have to admit for me, I was hungry quite often but now on purees on a schedule with some mild carbs, I'm stuffed in a moment! Just about three weeks out for me

Drink Water when you feel the need to eat, it helps along with allotted popsicles etc

I'm on purees as well. What are you eating??

Protein powder in nonfat milk for Breakfast or scrambled egg, tuna pouch with one wasa cracker, turkey meatballs in chicken broth and chard and a few saltines, yogurt, cottage cheese non fat or lie fat by Lucerne with apple sauce, mmmm butter Beans, refried Beans or pinto beans with salsa, hummus and Melba toast or wasa,

Basically that's what I choose from..I chew tge crackers to pulp and my NUT said it was fine bc I was hungry all if the time before and now I'm not. I eat five mini meals every 2.5-3hours as they told me. Not sure it's working yet...

I use fage yogurt with stevia drops and true line or lemon for flavoring it I buy yogurts from trader Joes non fat Greek.

Still on popsicles!!

What are tge crackers? Where do you buy them?

Girl, your family doesn't understand how you feel. I have struggled with weight, my whole adult life. Not everyone can do it without the tool of surgery. I have lost and regained well over 100 lbs. My knees and feet hurt daily. There are few if any "cute" clothes for me. My blood pressure is controlled with pills. I am now on insulin. I am determined to reduce to a normal weight, and be healthy and active. Have you ever wanted to ride a ride at the fair, but been afraid the safety latch wouldn't close, or you might put the ride in danger? Every time I have flown in the last 5 years I have had to ask for an extender for the safety belt. I am sick of physically and psychologically feeling like this! I am determined to get healthy for me! Don't wait as long as I did. My surgery is tomorrow 11/22. We push ourselves to give to our children, family, spouse/mate, and our employer. Don't we deserve the same level of commitment and care?

Make the decision that is right for you!!! Wishing you smooth sailing and happy days!

You can do it if you really set your mind to it

After the surgery Im sorry to say this but you want get drink all of those delicous shakes what you are getting now. So you might as well enjoy them while it last.

You are going to a transition that will alter your whole entire life. And your pre op diet is nothing compared to what is coming.

I dont want to scare you. But the food you will be eating after surgery is nothing but sips.

So i just want to let you know. This is real and hard work. Dont expect it to be easy because it aint. You signed up for this so you better make it worth while. And if you dont have the will you better need to have it because this is how your life is going to be for a very long time.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
