11 days post op...

Recommended Posts

I'm 11 days post op, only down 8 lbs and still having mid abdominal pain. My stomach still feels and looks very bloated, but very minimal gas...any thoughts on what could be going on?

I had my surgery on Halloween (we are in the same area, I am in Plano!)

I think my stomach looks smaller so I can't help you there.

I don't really have any pain unless I try to drink too quickly, Water or Protein shakes.

I do still feel slightly sore across my stomach just under my breasts but it is getting better every day.

Mild pain is probably fine, we are still healing. Have you been back for your post surgery follow up?

I guess you could be retaining fluids. Are you constipated? That could be it as well.

The surgeon actually cuts through your abdominal wall during the surgery. The muscles need to heal up, hence the prohibition on heavy lifting or straining after surgery.

As the nerves start to heal and pain medications are out of your system you can imagine that there will be some pain.

Around 2 weeks after my surgery, I was hurting pretty bad to lay in certain positions and sitting up or laying down. This was after 2 weeks with relatively no pain.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
